RESPONSE TO PURABELLA 0425...

Dear Purabella 0425,

In response to your opinion, here is mine:

I, too, am a resident of the Quail Terrace Apartments in Fairfield and I disagree with your comments. Since there are very few people in the complex with pets and you mentioned that you have pets, I can only assume that you are the couple that brought pet after pet into your apartment after you moved in. If you are this couple, you ended up with, I believe, 8 cats and 4 fully grown dogs and failed to properly care for them or clean up after them. You did not take care of these pets, including your having left one of the cats - a cat with a collar tag that said it had cancer - outside in the 102 degree heat without any water all day one day and outside in the heat (in the 90s) other days.

Aside from the fact that you did not take good care of your pets, the odor from your apartment was so horrendous that people didn't have to look over your fence to know that your back patio was plastered with layers of animal feces. The many cats that sat in your front window sill also explained the pungent odor of cat urine that traveled through the building in which you lived into your neighbors' apartments. I can only think that your furniture was soaked with cat urine and animal waste. It doesn't seem that there could be any other explanation for such a reeking odor.

I am sure that the management must have received many complaints about you (I was among them) and I think it was the management's responsibility to remedy the situation - for the health of your neighbors upon whom you imposed your household odors and whose health you were putting at risk. I watched the massive clean-up after you moved out - people literally wearing masks to enter the apartment, the carpets being pulled out, the bleaching of the back patio, the person who had to fumigate the ducts in the building, etc. And, you only lived there for about 4 months. I cannot imagine if you had lived there longer what it would have been like. I am sure other people would have moved out, though, if you had stayed.

Since you left, the air is breathable and people can walk by the building without covering their mouths and noses. People visiting me at my apartment no longer have to gag or hold their noses or refuse to visit because of the smell. The old yellowed newspapers you had strewn on your front porch have been replaced by a nice clean welcome mat, the numerous flies buzzing around peoples' heads as they walked by while you were living there are no longer there, and the feces and urine stench is gone.

Regarding your negative comments about the manager, Liz, I completely disagree. I also question your complaint that she went back on her word with you. I just don't believe what you are saying at all. I find her to be honest, down-to-earth, and a person who makes people living at Quail Terrace feel at home.

About your comment regarding "pipes bursting," you may be referring to a water main break that occurred not long ago. This can happen anywhere. I have lived here for some time and such things are rare occurrences. The maintenance manager, Sonny, was on top of it - even in his off hours late at night when the water main broke and had repair people here making the repairs. Your comment that "there are always pipes bursting here" is not a fair or accurate statement.

And, your comments about the grounds -- I don't think you will find many apartment complexes with such nice grounds. The grounds people are frequently here and often for the entire day mowing and trimming and leaf-blowing, etc. The beautiful trees, flowers, and neatly trimmed green grass are things I enjoy the most while living here.

Finally, I think that if you are going to write a review about anyone or anything, you should at least be honest and fair about it.

You sound disgruntled, but I do not think it was fair of you to expect that your neighbors would share your acceptance of living the way you did or that there would not come a time that the management would have to take action regarding the health hazard created by the animal waste that was piling up inside and outside your apartment.

Having said that, I don't think you are bad people. I just think you have something to learn about living in close proximity to other people.
