Don't even consider living here!!!

Do yourself a favor, don't waste your time considering living here. If you are into gang activity, arson, drugs, altercations with deaths, and having neighbors hiding from border patrol, then this is the place for you. However, if you are a respondsible citizen, who wants peace of mind where your children can play outside, look elsewhere.
Poor customer service sums up my experience here. Before you sign your lease, they are so sweet your teeth will hurt. But after that, you are on your own.
Be prepared for numerous excuses, and unprofessionalism. It's almost as if the management and leasing agents take pride in being as rude and as inappropriate as possible.
I had a false sense of security when they had me sign a document saying that they had a zero tolerance for drug activity in the complex. The form states that by signing it, you would not use/sell/or allow anyone else to use/sell on the property. I lost count how many times I have been offered drugs here. If you don't know, if you ever see a pair of laced sneakers thrown over a telephone wire, that tells drug seekers that if you wait long enough, you can get what you are looking for here. When I explained this situation to the manager, she said,"You can make all these accusations, but I live here too and I don't see that." I have photographic documentation to prove this fact. She lives in the cleaner, well- lit townhouses in the front of the property, not in the "hood" where I live. I'm tempted to set up a video camera to catch the drug activity, but for my own safety, that's obviously not a good idea.
One of the leasing agents actually called my neighbor a B*#$! and a F-ing Wh*%@ after she THOUGHT that she put her on hold! Her only request was that she get the phone number of the owner since the management wasn't meeting her needs;(she has been trying to get her apartment sprayed for the numerous ROACHES that we have to put up with).
Yes, their advertisements online, and in the local paper leave nothing to be desired, then you move in here, and let me tell you, it's terrible. I don't let my son play outside. There are numerous unsupervised children playing outside. I've seen children jumping from the second floor into the pool. Children fighting, smoking, you name it, they do it. The low-income mentality here seems to be, "kick the kids outside until sundown, then we'll have to deal with them.
I have a pretty high tolerance for things, as long as my son and I aren't directly effected, however the fire last July two doors down from us finally made me see the light. I should properly say arson. Apparently, vacant apartments here are the usual hang outs for gang-bangers. When they were told to get out of the apartment by the maintenance man (and where was the secruity gaurd that we pay for') they pushed the sofa that was left in the apartment up against the door and lit it on fire. Luckily, my Spanish is pretty good, I heard people yelling, "Look out, there's a fire!" I then had to grab my 5 year old son out of bed and get out as fast as we could, to wait for the fire department to put the blaze out. Imagine being 5 years old and having your mother yank you out of bed due to a fire! I promised him we were out of here, but the management is doing everything in their power to keep me here due to the lease.
We do not feel safe here, and by law, we should be allowed to break our lease. The acting manager (and I wrote acting since she is never in the office, and doesn't return phone calls) told me that I would have to pay the remaining months rent if I left! However, when I signed the lease, I was told that I would only have to pay the first months rent since their offer was for the first months rent for free. Lesson learned, I should have demanded that in writing! You get what you pay for is all I will say about that.
So now, my son and I feel like prisoners in this slum. I wrote a very candid letter, explaining that if I have to stay things had better change. All I got was a new fridge, a/c unit and stove, which should have been here in the first place.
We still walk through garbage to get to our door since they do not maintain the property. We still get carbon monoxide gas flowing through our bedroom windows when the multiple broken down cars in the parking lot are being worked on. The stench of garbage also flows through our window since they don't empty the dumpsters often enough. I don't like explaining to my 5 year old what "Gang-tag" graffiti is, since it's everywhere, and it doesn't get painted over.
They advertise "3 Swimming pools", but the only one that doesn't look like a public health hazard is the one by the leasing office, because: that's what you see before you sign your lease! I have photos and videos of how filthy the pool in building #1326 where I live is. I have never seen roaches in a pool in my life! It's pretty common to see the unsupervised tots throwing whatever they can find into the pool. I'm waiting to see a body floating in it one of these days, and I'm not being sarcastic.
I could go on and on, but I'm sure I made my point. I don't want anyone to make the same mistake that I made. I needed to move fast due to a divorce, and this place was available and affordable.
I believe this place is "blacklisted" for any military personnel, so it shouldn't even be an issue, but for everyone else, STAY AWAY from DOVER PARK APARTMENTS!!!!

To update: I moved out on October 1, 2005. I got the run around from the management since the manager quit who I originally dealt with. Locks were changed prior to me clearing all of my belongings out even though I paid for the entire month! I know by law, that was illegal, however, I am glad to be rid of the headache of living there, and dealing with the "management". To any single parent, considering moving there because it is affordable, remember: you get what you pay for. Work overtime, get a second job, do anything to say out of this area. You'll be glad that you did! |

this was 2005 and guess what same issues with management. Garbage is everywere and you get all the kids outside hit cars and scratching them. The maint. guys try to get the kids inside or away from the cars but never works. good guys but cant fix anything not sure if its company not giving them money or if they dont know what they are doing. I did live in the front in the "nicer" townhomes and they are falling apart the only thing better in the front is its quieter.
