Not as bad as most apartments out there

Coming from having lived on the east coast for the past 2 and half years (Virginia specifically) I have to say that though our apartment is very small (less than 600 sq) compared to living in almost 800sq, the price is very decent for rent and it's for the "most" part quiet. When my husband and I were living in VA we lived in luxury apartments that cost double what we are paying here, that were bigger, had a washer and dryer inside BUT had HORRIBLE leasing office personel that did not take any of our complaints seriously. I swear in the almost two years we lived there our rent went up $350 bucks in one year alone, without ANYTHING justifing the raise, in fact things got worst. Maintance never finished thier job (we were left without being able to use our shower for over two weeks cuz they kept forgetting to order the right part or were too busy to install it) we complained about noisy and disrespectful neighbors who were CLEARLY in lease violation of no noise after 9pm. They were having almost daily fraternity parties and blasting thier music, smoking outside our door, and leaving empty beer cans/bottles and cigarette butts all over our hallways and welcome mat. This was all happening anywhere starting at 8pm-4am mind you. And after numerous police having to come out, even giving them contacts to view the police reports they STILL would not evict those neighbors. They had only been giving them "notices" and you would think after about 2-3 they would face serious consequences, but NOPE, they did not do a thing and we ended up having to contact the BBB to allow them to let us out of our lease early without pentalty because we could no longer function in our own unit or apartment with all that constant noise. Anyway..my point is, yes, I've had noisy neighbpors here too, afternoons filled with hearing angry and disrespectful teens cussing outside on the block and yelling, and Wendsdays being awaken to the noise of lawn mowers and loud machinery...BUT at least MOST nights are quiet after 10-11pm and I can sleep peacefully without much disturbance until 9-10am sometimes. Now the downsides are, the small space of course, and I think the worst thing is NO central heat and air, especially nothing to cool you off or warm you in the bedroom where I would think it's most needed rather than in the living room that no one uses. Also I could not even install my own AC after asking managment to keep me cool, because of how the windows have mesh on them which cannot be opened to isntall a unit, therefore you can easily die of heat stroke or an asthma attack inside especially if you have asthma like me and need air to breath and a fan is simply not enough to circulate the air. The bathrooms are decent in size but the tub is not even standard as you cannot take a bath in it because it's not deep enough, which for me is a must especially since I suffer from back problems and need to soak a few times a week. But putting all those things aside, it's very decent for the price, the leasing office responds to complaints and takes them seriously enough to call you back or talk to those you have complaints about. And again, it's not as noisy as the other places we have lived in. Though we probably won't be staying here once our lease is up (it's just too small, and I can't withstand another summer without AC and I don't feel safe enough without having a bult on the door or being allowed to install my own security system. If not for those few things I'd recommend it to anyone else who does not care about the things I mentioned were lacking. The leasing office manager though is very nice and helpful, and she does seem to listen when you have a concern and they do inform and remind tenants when something is going to be done. I also like how they don't enter your apartment just anytime they want to and so far they have never needed to which is good for me as I do not work until the afternoon until late at night and like to sleep in during the morning. The last place we were at constantly would come into our apartment without ANY notice, even though we put in a request at the leasing office to call before entering and none of that was being honored. We work a different schedule than most and would still be asleep in the morning in our beds or I would be in the shower while a maintance person would enter, and I swear I complained about this, because as a tenant they have no right to enter your apartment without permission or advanced notice UNLESS of an emergency and NONE of them ever were. So based on all the horrible experiences we've had at the other place this one is a lot better and at a very decent rate.
