I had a six month lease at The Overlook. Honestly, I would have renewed, but the price was much too high. I was able to get a duplex with a yard for a couple hundred lower than what they were asking.

Firstly, if you have large dogs there is probably no better place to be. The apartments have some breed restrictions, but are very pet friendly. The apartment themselves sit right up against the 32 mile long bike trail, and there are plenty of poop bag stations so you can clean up after your dog.

The walls were thin, but not as bad as some apartments I have lived in. I could hear the neighbor s bratty child throwing a tantrum every evening next door, but the upstairs neighbors were more or less quiet. For the price I was paying, it should have been more insulated, though.

Now, the bugs. Yes there was the occasional spider (and even a centipede one time!) but HELLO the apartments are right next to riparian woodland. Of course there are going to be occasional bugs that want to come into your dry house when it s storming outside. Just squish them with a newspaper and be done with it. It wasn t an infestation, and the one time I did have an ant problem I simply locked up my sugar more securely. The ants went away within a week. Imagine that!

What else' Again, the work on the apartments wasn t really up to the standard that I was paying. The appliances were older and didn t have many features that I would have expected. Such as the oven didn t have a timer and the dryer and washer seemed to be very, very basic models. This wouldn t have been a problem if I wasn t paying nearly the cost of house-rent.

I wasn t screwed on the deposit maybe because I cleaned up after myself' In fact, I was shocked on how fast I got it back. It took a week. Tops.

I think with the Overlook you re mostly paying for the location. If you don t have dogs, and you re not a person who likes to take advantage of the wonderful bike trails then there is no reason to be there. You would be paying for nothing. If on the other hand you do have dogs and like a friendly community and are willing to pay the price there are some definite bonus s. I would wake up every morning, have a cup of coffee in the back yard and be surrounded by birdsong and the noises of the creek. Sometimes I would be visited by the local flock of wild turkeys. That s what I ll always remember about The Overlook, and I m glad I spent some time there even if my wallet wasn t as happy.

I live here and NONE of us have a back yard. And curious....how did you hear such wonders of nature over the hustle and bustle of Bust East Bidwell Street?
