You know, I'm looking for an apartment and I thought I'd check out this website to help me narrow my search a bit. Funny thing is, all of you people who have lived in EVERY SINGLE PLACE I've looked at in San Mateo and Foster City today online have had something bad to say about every apartment complex. What is that all about' I've lived in apartments for the majority of my adult life and I've had good experiences and not so good ones. But this is ridiculous! And when someone has something nice to say about a place, you all automatically think it MUST be an employee of the apartment complex that wrote it, because nobody could have possible enjoyed it . I have certainly learned something today: Do not look for "advice" on a website like this one. All you people do is ----- and complain about the same stuff; thin walls, car break ins, maintenance problems, etc. Guess what' Apartments have thin walls! ALL OF THEM DO. Car break ins happen anywhere, more likely in front of your own home that you bought and paid for than in apartment complexes where they have patrol. And your home doesn't have a built in set of maintenance people that can fix things for you any day of the week and sometimes on weekends too. Here's a thought: In your very own home (which, let's face it, none of us can afford these days) when your neighbors are playing loud music during the day, and trust me, it WILL be heard in your house as well, who do you complain to' If it's not 10pm, there is not a single person who will give a crap about the nuisance. In an apartment complex, they will remind you of the 10pm rule, but they will still try to get the noisy neighbor to comply and be respectful of the community rules. In your home, a pipe bursts and you have to call the plumber, but he can't make it out for 3 days AND he's going to charge you $1500. It wasn't your fault it broke, but it has to be fixed and right now! In an apartment, even if this happens at 2am, emergency maintenance will have the problem handled to a non-emergency until the next morning and then fix it right away. Did you just pay $1500 to have them fix it' Or better yet, the 'after-hour' fees' I think not. Do you see a pattern here' Nobody WANTS to live in an apartment, but for the most part, it satisfies the budget we typically have to work with and takes care of what we need most in a home; walls and a roof. Gotta have more than that' I hear it's a buyer's market right now...so take advantage of it and quit putting useless information on this website that's been said before in so many clever ways. No one place is perfect in every aspect; that doesn't exist. And sometimes, having a great office or maintenance staff is more than you'll get anywhere else, so maybe this place isn't as bad as you all say it is. Or any of the other places over here on the Peninsula. Maybe I just need to go with the feeling I get when I step into the office and make my decision based on what feels good to ME. Yeah, that sounds good. Thanks for nothing, fellow renters!

Why do you think complaints are useless? Your thoughts are valid, and so are everyone else's. The one BIG difference between "your home" and an apartment is RESPONSIBILITY. As a property owner, if it's your home then it's your responsibility. So who is the property owner in an apartment? I'm sorry, while I believe break ins can happen anywhere, when it occurs MORE FREQUENTLY in some place, then, uh, yeah, it's simply that it OCCURS MORE FREQUENTLY AT THIS PROPERTY. Whatever the reason maybe, it's simply the case. So as an apartment hunter, this information is valuable, if not for the apartment complex, then maybe the area itself. The same thing applies to the rest of the items posted, noise, walls, etc. - these are simply facts about the place and/or area, the level of service you get as a renter (yes, you do deserve service), the responsiveness of property personnel, the availability of resources, and the type of neighbors you'll be living with. And well, if you think it's the same "all over" or "all apartments" are like that, I'm sorry, you need to do more research. Yes, nothing is perfect, but these posts/complaints give insight to what one might expect when choosing to live somewhere.

This news of break-ins bothers the hell out of me when you said "maybe it's the area" THIS IS FOSTER CITY, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?? I cannot get over that even this city has to be called a problem area, where the hell can one go anymore? I hate thugs, I ------- hate them.

Its the same experience I had when I was looking for opinions on apartments. Almost all the reviews were negative about all the apartments. I took a chance and rented an apartment even though it had bad ratings. I have to say, I had a peaceful two year stay and never had any issues with the management. I guess people write reviews only when they have something negative to say and don't bother to write when they have a good experience
