Honestly, where else to live in Foster City'

I have lived in Fosters Landing for about one year now. Scary looking people' Police raids' Teens selling drugs' Mentally disturbed people being bused in' Housing for low-income people' What the heck are you guys talking out'''' Scary looking people....um, do you mean minorities and non-caucasian/asian individuals' Yeah, I've seen a couple "scaring looking people", but yes, we live in the Bay Area, not Portland. Police raids.....how often do those happen again' Teens selling drugs....there you go stereotyping again. Low-income housing.....welcome to the world of apartments.....most in the Bay Area offer this.

I've lived in three separate complexes in Foster City.....Miramar (way, way too expensive, strange neighborhood, in flightpath of planes heading towards SFO), Bridgepointe (Home Depot traffic noise, Bridgepointe Mall parking noise, street noise, garbage trucks noise, pricey, lazy leasing office), and Fosters Landing (right now). I would think FL is the best of the bunch. Pricey' Yes, but compare to any of the complexes in the area. I also had friends that lived in the Jefferson Place near Whole Foods...talk about skinny walls....you can hear your neighbors' lightswitch...honestly.

Maybe you were very, very unlucky and your neighbors are complete a-holes. I can understand your frustration.....I had piss-poor neighbors when I lived in Bridgepointe. You can always complain and complain and complain some more to the leasing office...they might be a bit slow, but they'll respond. And you can always switch units, ya know' As far as leasing laws, they won't ding you for switching units, especially when you have a good reason and you plan on staying in-house. And sometimes, you get what you pay for. If you have a unit on the first floor, then there will be noise from above....that's just the way it is.

Positives:
- units are pretty nice....I have a nice, big one-bedroom....full washer/dryer, fireplace, balcony, garage, etc, etc.
- complex as a whole looks nice.....compared to other complexes in Foster City
- new updated kitchen

Complaints:
- not too noisy, but I have a top-floor unit. Not sure about the walls....noise completely depends on your neighbors. Dogs are allowed, so if your neighbor has a tiny terror mutt who is out on the balcony all the time, then you'd better report it. In fact, I hear one right now...what a pain...but you know what, it's ok after 10pm. I don't live in a place of worship, so I can't expect to hear a pin drop every hour. If you want comfort, sometimes you need to be the a-hole, right' If you're facing East, then you'll inevitably hear the planes heading towards SFO. If you're facing the street, then you'll get a taste of all the maniac drivers. If you're near the pool, you'll be pulling your hairs out during the summer-time. If your window on the 1st floor is facing the parking lot, then you might get some exhaust fumes and hear some jackass rev'ing his engine in the morning. It's all about the location! Check the complex map and tour the place before picking out your room.

Conclusion: I've researched most of the complexes in the Foster City/San Mateo area. Each of them have negatives. Each of them have positives. It's like that with any complex. There's also alot of luck involved.....if you have crappy neighbors, then your experience will suck. If you have a crappy location, then your experience will suck. If you expect perfection, then your experience will suck. So sometimes you have to lower your expectations. There is no such thing as a perfect apartment complex, no matter how much you pay. I have buddies spending $3,250/month on 1-bedders near the ballpark in SOMA...supposedly the "premiere" complex in the area....and they hate it because of the noise, of the leasing office, the traffic, the neighbors, etc.
