Worst rental experience ever

Aside from it taking 1.5 years to fix a window screen problem that was listed on our move in, the rest of the experience was down hill. We bounced a check to them twice, and in violation of California law, they continued to harass us about that long after it was settled.
Any time we complained about the mold, which was one of the reasons the previous tenant had moved out, and was not helped when the upstairs toilet overflowed into our light sockets, they'd report a "problem" with our bank, and refuse to take a check. We had to destroy our matresses on move out, due to the volume of mold that had accumulated, and most other cloth furniture to.
Not only did they refuse to acknowledge the complaints repeatedly, and harass us whenever we did complain, they are still trying to charge us for a number of things, including the water damage to the carpet that resulted from the overflowing toilet that wasn't even in our unit.
They've also got several pending lawsuits for harassment, misuse of funds, violating california tenant laws in terms of notice, payments, and a number of other things. They also charge the entire building a "combined" rate for water usage, with absolutely no stats or bills sent, which is under investigation as well.
While the unit and grounds are nice, if you're moving in here, I really hope you've got a good lawyer, and don't mind the long term hassle you're in for. The prior tenant in our unit, we found out from the neighbor after moving in, was also engaged in a lawsuit over the mold and fleas in the apartment.
