RE-review after the first post...

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I originally wrote this review in September of 2004. I retract everything that I've said in my previous review (which I left below).
There has been a lot of turnover in the office staff...and not for the good. It seems the focus from the Alborada and its parent company Equity Residential, has shifted from quality to quantity. The residents that used to live here were quiet, professional, hardworking people. Since my previous review, a lot of "bad eggs" have moved in. The complex is noisier, dirtier, and has lost its "luxurious" feel. Parking is never controlled, and the gates are ALWAYS broken. Even when working, everybody seems to have the gate code, so what's the point in having secured access if everyone can get in' The remotes for the gates barely work for those who pay the $25 deposit for the remote, even after repeated requests to fix the gate. How hard can it be''
I'd say the biggest problem here now is the noise. This was NOT a problem in the first year and a half we lived here. Loud music not just from apartments, but cars too. Parties are pretty popular now too, and occur in the hallway of the entrance to the apartments. On at least two occasions now, drugs (marijuana) were being passed around by teenagers and the smell was floating through the cracks in our window.
There also seems to be a lot of "shady" characters living here now...and safety seems to be a concern. We don't feel safe walking the complex at night anymore, and that's a shame. One of the pluses to the complex is the acceptance of pets. But it seems the lease has now been audited to allow the acceptance of "questionable" breeds...including large dobermins, german shepherds, chows, and there's even a pit bull mix that lives here now. On recent morning "potty" walk with our labrador retriever, a dobermin started to charge me and it was all the owner could do to keep it back. After gathering myself together I went to the office and complained. I was told and non-genuine "...sorry..." and that was the end of it.
I don't like to bad mouth people or companies. But I believe I've noted my concerns with the office on more than one occasion and to no avail.
If you are searching for an apartment, I would suggest passing up the Alborada until the office staff and/or the corporate office (Equity Residential) heeds the concerns of their current residents.
(review orginally posted 9/2004)
My boyfriend and I have lived at the Alborada a year and a half now and we really enjoy the atmosphere. Although no place is going to be perfect, especially with so many people, different cultures, backgrounds, etc...Alborada definitely caters to please everyone.
Loud noise is hardly a problem, although we do occasionally here the closing of cabinets. Kitchen appliances are nice, newer, and clean. The washer and dryer could stand to be updated though.
This is also a very pet friendly, hearing impaired friendly, --- friendly, and diverse complex to live in. It's secluded enough from the busy streets that it makes you feel like you live in a quiet neighborhood...yet grocery stores, shopping, and parks are close by.
Overall...we've been very satisfied renters.
