First, I don't know who this "Crystal" is and in my opinion "she" sounds like a
"plant"! At best she is not informed.

Second, there have indeed been crime issues at Archstone. Man beaten bloody in
elevator (check local news papers), drug dealings, car theft (3 in one night, et. al.), countless car break-ins, and some apartment break-ins as well. Way too many
"homeless/drunks" hanging around and in some cases pushing themselves into buildings
and sleeping/breaking into storage units, etc.

In my opinion, Archstone as a corporation does not do enough to "clamp down"
on its own "rules" and those who break them. After all, the property is
in fact "private property" owned by Archstone (or parent company), they can choose
to enforce the rules/laws, etc or not on their own property.

Things got so bad that some residents put a "neighborhood watch program" together.
This, aided by the police department AND some improvements in managements efforts
to upgrade security survalience has indeed helped. But it is not enough -- things
are still not has they should be. ( But honestly, things are not as they should in
the entire city of Fremont!)

Third, roughly 20% of residents are "on the program", ie "below market", "welfare", "section 8", etc. Archstone willingly participates in this government program and thus one can expect these numbers to remain at current levels or go higher - my opinion.

Fourth, the Hawyard fault runs right underneath the grounds. So, one wonders why
the tallest apartment building in Fremont was approved on top of the fault!' I am
sure this question will asked more often AFTER the next Hayward Fault earth quake.

Fifth, lighting is not adequate at night especially in the back side walk area and
worst of all along the BART pathway. Those use BART and come home late, after dark,
KNOW what I am talking about.

Lastly, there are also some good things about living here. The businesses are
nice to have so close. (wish Archstone would help them with improved parking and
cleaner side walks and planter boxes) Many residents are professional, kind and
easy to get along with which helps. We are very close to BART and easy walking
to grocery store, etc.

I lived in Archstone for several months. I had an assisgment in the area. I am sorry. I didnt experience all the crime you were talking about. The most that happen when I lived there was some kids running around in the hallways making noise. My boyfriend reported them to the office and it never happen again. I didn't feel unsafe there. Yes there were homeless people around. But in California there are homeless people everywhere. I moved out of archstone because my job relocated some place else. I got a cleaning bill from archstone. Now we cleaned the place well. There was nothing left in the apartment. Everything was wiped and clean inside out. But they still manage to give me an unjust cleaning bill. So be fore warn when you move out, no matter how hard you clean your apartment. They will give you at least $300.00 bill for nothing. I am no plant. I lived there and gave my rating on the experience while I was there. But because of that trumped up cleaning bill that I didn't deserve. I will never rent another Archstone Apartment. If you dont like living in fremont you should move. I did notice there were a lot of homeless people there. There were a lot of people asking for money when you get gas or go into the grocery store. I am sure there is crime there. There is crime everywhere. But when I don't like where I live. I will just simply move. We all have that right. Crystal
