NOT WHAT EXPECTED, AND RUDE MANAGEMENT

I was very excited when I first visited Durham Green and got a chance to look at the model for the smallest 1-bedroom available. It was clean, cozy, and at first glance the grounds are well kept. However, not only did they give me the wrong unit number's availability (at the last minute I was moved into another unit, and management acted as if I just heard them wrong), but they also would not let me see the unit until I had signed the lease and had been handed the keys.
When I finally got to look at my actual apartment, my heart sank. The cabinets were old, peeling, and just plain nasty. The paint job was awful, there was paint on the carpet, and even rips in the carpet! The carpet comes up every time I vacuum. And I daily face a HUGE mold problem. I air out the apartment as much as possible, but there is black mold in the bathroom along the wall next to the shower, and all around my bedroom window. Certain places in the carpet have lumps underneath, and the walls have bulges in certain areas. Appliances are old and shoddy.
Maintenance is pretty nice, but it takes forever to get a work order if you talk to the wrong person. My bedroom blinds had been broken from Day 1, and after months of trying to get them fixed, I gave up. Until management had an outside company come in and inspect my apartment (in which they barged in as I was getting into the shower! They didn't even call first!) they finally had maintenance come by...after a week. Thanks alot, I suffered for over a year with broken blinds. AND, when the maintenance guy came, walked into my apartment while I was sleeping (I work a night schedule). He did apologize, but Management claims to call you before they do anything, and they DO NOT. The light in the breezeway outside my front door has been out for over 1 year. I feel REALLY safe coming home at 1 am. Thanks alot.
Management is so rude. They will never notify you by phone about anything. I've had packages sit in their office for weeks and they never call. They don't call before they plan on barging in, and when they knock on your door, they act like they don't even expect you to answer. They just get their keys out and barge in.
My rent was raised $75 after one year, new tenants had theirs raised $100.
Why haven't I moved yet' Well, I didn't have enough time to physically move, and to be honest, I want to take my time and choose a place that won't leave me disappointed and somewhat depressed whenever I come home, I don't want history to repeat itself, but I will probably feel a huge weight off my chest when my lease is up and I never have to deal with this place EVER AGAIN.......But you know, what the hey. it looks fantastic from the outside!

Very True... I agreed. I have the same problems. They never call to notify you about any changes or mail packages. They only drop off a letter on your door or leave it on your dinning table. So if you missed it, too bad! I had the same problem with the bathroom, blinds, and the lights. It's also creepy there. There are some people that sits in the car and stare into your bedroom windows! Since there's not enough lights at night, they seriously need security.
