HORRIBLE PLACE TO LIVE!
From: -Anonymous-Date posted: 5/1/2009
Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
My husband & I moved into Malvern Hills almost 3 years ago. It's a quiet, small community--which is nice--but the keyword "small" also applies to the square footage of the apartments themselves; the bathrooms especially. But that's not even the main problem. Last year our dishwasher started acting up so we called the landlord, Martha. She sent someone out & had it fixed. A few months later, it was going again so we called again. She told us if the appliance keeps breaking, we'll have to pay for it ourselves. It's not OUR fault it's faulty; we are not over-or misusing it in any way.
The property was recently bought by another company who decided to make some nice upgrades. The owners installed new garage doors & electric openers--& the tenants were were $40 plus an additional $20 deposit for. We did not ASK for new garages; we shouldn't have to PAY to get into our garages.
A few months ago our toilet started leaking from the base. It took four days for Martha to get a plumber to our apartment. Shortly after that the shower head dripped constantly & the cold water didn't work; if you turn the knob, the cold turns on for a moment, the pipes CLUNK & then the pressure goes low. Martha sent a plumber out--& all he did was replace the shower head. The pipes still clunk & it takes 15 minutes to get the water to the right temperature.
We recently discovered now the pipes under the kitchen sink leak. Thankfully we keep a bucket of cleaning products in the cabinet underneath, so the kitchen didn't leak. It's not so much of a leak, actually, as it is flowing water from the pipes. My husband called Martha 2 days ago & left a message, asking for someone to come check it out. When I got home yesterday I had noticed our deadbolts were locked--I leave after my husband does in the morning & I get home before he does & NEVER lock the deadbolts. I was excited someone had come to fix the sink in such a timely manner for the first time ever. I checked the sink & heard the constant flow of water into the bucket. IT HADN'T BEEN FIXED!
We live in the apartment across the pool from Martha so I went over to talk to her. I knocked on her door 5 or 6 times; nobody answered. I could HEAR someone talking inside. She was completely ignoring me. I went back home to call her but she didn't answer; I had to leave a message.
Martha's daughter moved into the apartment next to ours & I've noticed she has special privileges like new cabinets. The other apartments (I've been in a few) still have the basic white & the manager's daughter has new oak ones. She also uses the manager's washer & dryer--which isn't coin operated.
Every other day someone comes around & hoses down the complex. Really'!'! Hosing down the complex!''! Whoever it is, has a power-hose & rinses everything down--including doors & windows. This means if you're at home with a young child, you better make sure he or she isn't napping when the hose comes by. The doors & windows rattle. Numerous times I've noticed water all over our tiled entry-way. As a result, our metal "screen" door is rusting away at the bottom.
I cannot stand this place. Martha doesn't like to be bothered on weekends or "after business hours," even in the case of emergencies. We have a young son still in diapers who we took swimming last summer. He was wearing proper swim diapers & so was our friends' son. A few days later Martha told my husband she found diapers in the pool filter & we need to make sure our son is wearing the proper attire. He assured her it wasn't us & she insisted it must have been our friends. He told her that wasn't possible. THERE ARE AT LEAST 3 OTHER CHILDREN IN THE COMPLEX STILL IN DIAPERS & ONE I SAW SWIMMING THE DAY AFTER WE DID!!!
We're terrified to tell Martha any of the problems with our apartment anymore. Either it wont get fixed or she'll charge us.
