I really love the area and really wanted to rent a place at Wilshire Promenade. When I called up Essex, I was up front about what I wanted: a 1br/ba and I had a dog. They said no problem, we love dogs, come on down for a tour, fill out an app. They scheduled me for a weekend afternoon, which I confirmed again the day before the appt. I showed up and there was no answer in the leasing office. I kept calling, no answer. I tried the offsite line, no answer. I kept calling, finally, someone picked up. When I told them I had an appt and no one was in the office, they said I was lying and that there were no appt scheduled that day. The person asked who I had set up the appt with and when I said I couldn't remember, they said I can't help you. I asked if they could look it up with a phone number or something and they grudgingly did it. They finally found the appt and said, fine, let me call the office. Got back with me and said, "yeah, no one's picking up" ARGH! Put me on hold again, then came back and said, "Oh, the girl that was supposed to be there left early." When I asked why I wasn't notified if I had an appt, they said Sorry, we don't know anything about it. I left and figured if this was how they treated a prospective resident, it wasn't going to get any better. FOUR days later, I received a call from someone in the leasing office saying the girl who had been there that day had been sick and had to leave. When I asked why I wasn't notified, I received an insincere apology, then she quickly launched into what kind of units they had available. When I asked how much the pet rent is for a dog, she said they don't accept dogs in the main building. But, she said, they had condos across the street that accepted dogs. There weren't any one bedrooms available, but the two bedrooms were nice. I said I wasn't looking for a two bedroom, then she said to me: "Well, why don't you get rid of your dog' Then you could get a 1 bedroom."
Thankfully, I got a 1 bedroom, a whole lot nicer and bigger than what Wilshire has, and they accepted not one, but TWO dogs. Screw you, wilshire.
