Truly enjoyed living at The Highlands

I lived at The Highlands for four years and recently bought a house. I loved my apartment - it was spacious, storage was well planned and every square foot was used well. For the most part, I enjoyed the staff and met some wonderful people.

But, there are very serious problems with these apartments - and, the management.

(1) The Property Manager is rarely available and refuses to make herself available to tenants who must see her after their working hours. She is gone by 5:00 PM and off weekends. No extra efforts are ever made by her for the tenants.

(2) Parking is an enormous problem. Indeed, it is a nightmare. Owners/Mgmt. take no interest in stopping offending tenants from inappropriate parking. Tenants will frequently take two spaces (out of 6 or 4) to protect a new car, but the management does nothing to rectify this with the offending tenant. Some park very askew & not against the curb, making it almost impossible to park behind, in front or next to them. This, too, is permitted.

(3) Renting to 17, 18 and 19 yr. old tenants going into their very first apartment. The kids go wild with the freedom - as do their schoolmates, and friends, and ALL live at the apartment playing loud music, taking up all the parking, and trampling over the landscaping - drinking and lots more. They have no inkling about courtesy to neighbors. They defend their right to make noise - until poice are called. Fights ensue, harrassment is common, and the disturbance to other tenants is major and destructive. They are made to wait, however, while the appropriate number of notices were served, and until mgmt finally evictes them. Their apartments are destroyed, and it costs them plenty to return it to it's original condition.

This is repeat problem and a severe one. I feel they should have a policy not to rent to this age group unless they quality by being employed, no record with law enforcement, and a parent co-signs. Or, reserve a specific area for them. They are frequently disrespectful of their surroundings, so landscaping is ruined and littered, abandoned apartments are destroyed, loud cars with ear splitting music race around the complex at 2:00 am and take up all of the tenant parking. Unfortunately, approaches to other tenants are hostile and rude.

It's most unfortunate, as this has lost many good, long-time, responsible tenants who take good care of their apartments, but choose not to live with that element.

Unfortunately, during a recent call and conversation with a responding police officer, he asked me, "What are you doing living here' These are the WORST apartments anywhere. No one decent lives here anymore."

Most unfortunately, that has become the wide-spread reputation of The Highlands Apartments.
