As exciting as it is to move into a new apartment community, my fiance and I were excited to find a place to call our first home. We were treated nicely by the management when we decided to put down the deposit and the application fees. The next morning, we were called by the apartment management and told the bottom floor apartment that we had put the deposit for had been rented out to somebody else before us. So at this point we started to see the poor communication between management. After we were told that we wouldn't be able to have this particular apartment, they offered a more expensive upper level apartment. Not exactly by our choice, but we decided to take the apartment.

By this time we have already put in our 30 day notice to our current apartment. We have already rented out a rental truck, and were prepared to move the weekend before I start my new job. I get a call from a different person at management to let me know that the new apartment that we agreed to wasn't going to be avaliable for an additional 18 days. I asked him if there were any other apartments that would be avaliable to rent by the time I start my new job. The answer I got was NO. What were we to do, go to a new apartment complex, right!'

We go back to the Highlands apartments to get our money back, seeing that it was their fault that we weren't renting from them. We would have if they had something available. So when we go to the office to get our deposit and application fee back, they refused to refund the application fee. We lost $60. Oh and catch this, the original apartment all of a sudden was avaliable for us to rent. There was a conversation with the manager that she would prorate the $60 we lost, yet we have already lost trust in the management. Who is to say that once we took her offer, the apartment would become unavailable again. Also, we got several different stories between the management regarding what happened. The sad part is that they gained $60 from us.

It turned out to be such a mess. Just think twice before you rent there. Get everything in writing. They can really mess with your moving plans. Yet through all the trouble they put us through, they really didn't show any remorse; no apologies. I am glad we ended up not renting there. At least we are not stuck in a one year lease!

Even though i'm not REALLY eanteing to bash this place as it goes against my "let it go" nature I have to warn you... This place is run by dishonest people. After I filled out the credit app and left a deposit, I was told that the apartment that I came in for was magically unavailable. Further the rental fee that was advertised as 1035. per month on ForRENT.com was suddenly 1090.per month. I SHOULD HAVE BEEN SMART AND FOLLOWED MY INSTINCTS... Don't be sucked in like I was.
