My husband and I moved into the Highlands in 2004. At the time, the management was really great. The girls in the office were extremely pleasant and very helpful. The on-site manager was also very nice. Then, suddenly, they brought in an entirely new group of people and apparently let the others go. That's when everything went down the toilet. The girls (and guy) in the office are ALL rude and very snotty.
We had a large beehive that was in a tree outside of our apartment building. It was hanging in a tree about ten feet from the steps that lead up to our door. The hive was about the size of a basketball and it was COVERED with bees!!! We have a 2-year-old who has really bad allergies, so my husband personally went to the front office to let them know so that the beehive could be removed. The guy who was working up there told him that the exterminator had already been to the property that day, so there was nothing he could do. My husband told him to call the exterminator and have him come out again. The guy then told him that they were on lunch break and said he needed to leave.
My husband was, of course, fuming mad!! So, I told him to tell all of our neighbors to start calling up there and complaining. It took our downstairs neighbor (who is very allergic to bees) to take a picture of the hive, take it to the office, and threaten to call someone himself before they would do anything about it. When the exterminator came he told us that if we had waited another day, the hive would have DOUBLED in size. He also said that it only takes 2 stings for an allergic person to die, and 10 stings for a non-allergic adult to die.
In addition, our garbage disposal has broken twice in three months time. It took a week both times before anyone came to fix it. Our whole apartment stunk because everything that I had tried to put down the disposal when I realized it was broken came back up and started rotting. I don't blame the maintenance people for the slow response. Everytime they have come they have always been extremely pleasant and very helpful. They are extremely understaffed and need to hire more maintenance workers. The second time it broke one of the maintenance men came after he was off the clock to fix it because they are so understaffed, but he knew how long we had been waiting. We told him to go home to his family and come back the next morning.
Don't move here. No matter how nice it looks from the outside. Once they trap you into a lease they think they can treat you however they want. Our lease ends this month and we're getting out of this DUMP as quickly as possible!!!!

it's pretty sad that even with all these review the staff up front are still so arrogant. They say the proof is in the pudding well I live on the the newer side of the complex and there are at least 8 empty apartments and a couple of them been empty for a least 6 months. every time I see someone moving out I never wonder why they are moving out I just think to myself good for them. They keep trying to make improvement to the complex what they need to-do is get rid the office staff and start over.
