We moved into a 2 bed 2 bath here for $1800/month, after getting sick of paying $2300/month for the same size unit, with the same interior amenities, at the Village. The grounds here are definitely NOT Village caliber, however, if you are willing to pay $500/month extra for pretty landscaping and fountains, then by all means, go right ahead.
San Carlo is a welcome retreat after dealing with the people who live in the Village. It is so much more quiet, and you have far less Douchebagery here than at the Village. This place is mostly families, and the only real commotion you get is from the kids scooting around on their skateboards (which has been curtailed slightly after management sent out a letter).
Speaking of the management, they have always responded within hours, if not minutes, to our attempts to contact them (usually use the email form on the myrentalliving.com website). Maintenance is also really quick, showing up, again, within mere hours of submitting a request online.
The only real complaint I have, are the spiders... there probably isn't much anyone can do about them without bombing the entire complex, and maybe it is just this time of year, but they are EVERYWHERE! You can't walk the grounds without walking through at least one web, and inside the units, we routinely kill at least 2 or three nasty looking spiders with bodies as big around as nickels, every week.
Back to the positive side though, the community is located within walking distance of a number of great parks, and is close to multiple shopping centers (this IS Irvine after all).
