An honest opinion

My husband and I have lived here for almost a year. We are relocating to the Bay area, and I have been using this site for pre-screening purposes myself. However, I decided to see if most the comments were fair by looking at my own place. I was shocked to discover how many negative commments there were about Villa Coronado. This is my honest opinion:
(1) Apartment: I live in a one bedroom apartment w/705 square feet. It is an open floor plan with lots of light. I have not experienced any insect problems whatsoever. However, I am near--very near--the 405. I cannot see it, but I can hear it. Therefore, I do not use my balcony for much accept laundry.
(2) Staff: Lazlo was my rental agent. He has been wonderful. He even stayed late to help get my paperwork in order. I am not sure if they are all as helpful. I have only had one maintenance call and it was taken care of by 5pm. The maintenance staff has always been respectful and professional.
(3) Neighbors: We live in between 3 UCI students and a single woman. We have only had one late night party next door--well, only one that disturbed our sleep at least.
(4) Noise: Again, my apartment faces the highway, so I do hear it. In addition, I can hear the neighbors below open and close their sliding glass door. However, these are truely minor. The complex is undergoing renovations. The apartments themselves are being upgraded. This is obviously very loud, but it only takes place 8-5 when most of the residents are at work.
(5) Parking: We have a garage that is primarily used for storage, so we park in the open parking. The only time I have ever had any trouble parking was when they repaved the parking lot. I get home after 5 quite often and never have a problem.
(6) Safety: The apartments have alarms (which you can have monitored at an additional cost). It is a gated community. Obviously, this doesn't keep everyone out, but the gates are not broken all the time like other "gated communities" I have lived in. Moreover, Irvine is a safe community in and of itself, so I wouldn't worry. There are always people walking, jogging, and riding their bikes.
Good luck to the apartment hunters. I hope this is helpful to you.
