Crime spot of Irvine

My fiance checked out Villa Siena about a couple of weeks ago and fell in love with how beautiful the place was.
We loved a particular apartment and was about to rent it when I read these ratings and decided to investigate for myself.
I saw how a lot of people talked about seeing the Irvine cops there all the time (which we actually happened to see when where were there checking the place out and asking a random stranger what they thought of living there).
Well, I asked my old roommate (who used to write for the OC Register and communicated with Irvine cops all the time) if she could find me the police reports for Villa Siena.
She gave me an AWESOME website in which you can type in the name of the street and city and get all the crime reports for a specified date range.
Well, sure enough, I put in Palatine (the street in Villa Siena) for 01/01/09 to 08/25/09 and a long list of reports came up.
Most had to do with burglary (bikes being stolen, cars being broken in to, things taken out of garages) and vandalism (cars being keyed).
You can check the report out for yourself.
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/police-crime-blotter-200 Well, after much thought, my fiance and I decided to NOT live there.
I grew up in some hard-knock places in Long Beach, and I choose to pay higher rent and live in Irvine to get away from crime, not live in it.
The discounts they offered us (especially after we told them our concerns about saftey and noise) weren't worth not having peace of mind.
My fiance didn't want to have to worry about me while I lived there alone before we get married.
Granted, everyone in this community (including our leasing agent and manager) said that the higher crime rate is due to having about 1500 units and more than 3,000 people living together in a small community.
They say the mere size of the place is a good enough reason to have so many problems (especially since it's so hard to catch anyone who commits these crimes).
But from what I know and saw (though they're not legally allowed to tell you), this place is full of rich college students (I went to UCI, so I know the type of kids that go there) who live here for the mere fact that it's like living at a resort and being on vacation all the time.
The leasing staff, the residents we talked to, and most of these reviews say that there are always parties on the weekends (particularly by the back pool where we thought about living).
So if you're one of those immature frat or sorority peeps who like to act like ***holes just because you're spoiled and have been given whatever you wanted all your life and don't know how to respect others, then this is probably the place for you.
Definitely not a place for people who raise children (unless you want to teach them to how to party when they're in college) or want a safe place to live (I have no children and am in my 20's).
And as a woman, I definitely don't feel safe walking from my car in the underground parking lot to the rickety elevator by myself at night knowing that the same people who have no remorse for breaking windows and stealing out of cars and garages are walking around drunk after partying by the pool.

You did the right thing by staying away from this community! If I may also say... STAY AWAY FROM ALL "Irvine Company" communities.... ask the management of the communities you visit if they belong to the "Ivine Company"

BEWARE RENTERS!!!!! I was so happy to finally get the hell out of the Villa Siena HELL HOLE! Villa Siena is the worse and MOST HORRIBLE apartment complex I have ever lived in! I have lived in at least 21 different apartment complexes all over the U.S.A. Villa Siena has to be the noisiest, crime-infested, dirtiest, and most HORRIBLE management staff of them all! BEWARE RENTERS!! It looks nice at first BUT you will be VERY sorry if you live at Villa Siena....There are way better apartment complexes in the area with much reasonable prices.
NOTES: GUEST PARKING IS UNAVAILABLE 99.9% of THE TIME!!! My neighbor's brand new car was STOLEN the first week she moved in...management and incompetent guards claim that the security cameras (by the entrance/exit) were not working that week. I don't think Villa Siena has any security cameras. Irvine PD claims it was most likely an INSIDE JOB!!! BEWARE!!!!
