I was a resident here from 9/2004 to 7/31/2008 and it is now 8/26/2008 and have yet to receive an accounting for my deposit. I can't wait to send them a letter to have my FULL deposit returned to me because they failed to follow California law and send me a letter within 21 days of me moving out. I will most definitely take Brooklake to court and request my full deposit. This should teach them for raising me rent every friggin 6 mos.

Im adding to this because it is the most recent message about brooklake. At the end of march they changed to terms of tenancy raising the rent on a 1/1 br from $1130 to $1150 and on 10/1/08 got a letter stating if we want a 6mo lease it will be $1225, 12mo. lease will be $1205 and to remain mo. to mo. it will be $1355. this is ridiculous. two of the 5 dryers have been down in a laundry room for over a month, people are fighting over dryers, the landscaping crew has gotten lazy. are they taking advantage of the housing crisis? or is corporate office being affected by it and were the bottom of the totem pole? a car was broken into and all the loose change was stolen (couple bucks) but the hidden gate remote was stolen and it was brooklake who really robbed me requesting a $45 deposit for a new gate remote. OH, and the main gate is often broken down up to 2 to 3 days. My question is why are they always changing business managers?

Here's an update to my deposit situation. I sent Brooklake a "demand for deposit" letter and within 2 weeks I had my full deposit, $400.00, returned to me by check. So this is just an example of the little guy, for once, fighting back on the big guy and finally winning. I'm pretty sure they routinely fail to send ex-residents any type of letter or accounting within 21 days of them moving out expecting the ex-resident to not fight back and simply lie down and give up.
