Don't do it

First, I must say that I did NOT live here. I was scheduled to move in November 1st, 2008. I came the day before, asking if I could use the garage one day early. Not the apartment, just the garage. I offerred to pay the move in for November first of course. Any reasonable landlord would have no problem with this.

But to my surprise, the manager, -------, flatly refused to allow me use of the garage for a mere 24 hours. She's one of those "got to follow the rules" types, even if the rules are unreasonable and stupid. To be honest, she just enjoys telling someone what they can't do... you know the type. One of those "ha ha, you want something and I won't give it" types of personalities.

When I told her she was going to lose a good tenant over such a trivial and petty matter, she still refused to budge. She said I would have to pay the pro-rated amount for the apartment for 1 day to use the garage. Hey -------, I've got an idea, how about we start charging by the minute'

I have rented many times in the past. Never have I encountered such a ridiculously strict move in policy. I've had managers give me keys 2 or even 3 days in advance, not worrying about such minor things as 1 day's use of the garage.

Be warned, if you rent here you're going to have to deal with this kind of nonsense. Of course, when it comes to fulfilling their duties in a timely manner, then the "rules" can get bent... as we can see from the complaints of others here regarding maintenance.

Glad I saw this side of the management before renting! Hope you're happy with whoever rents instead of me -------... chances are a lot higher that they'll not pay rent on time, make noise, or damage the apartment. I on the other hand, have a spotless rental record - WITH REFERENCES - who can attest to the fact that I'm an exceptional tenant.

------- is not the manager first off and to take a garage before your move in is never approved unless you want to take full responsibility for everything. If there were to be an issue with something in the unit we would be responsible, if something were to be stolen or damaged without you signing the lease agreement we would be responsible. Example: If you stored your items in the garage the night before and the resident upstairs had a leak and damaged all of your items who's responsible? Us! Our rules and reg's are in place because things like this have happened. Everyone wants what is best for them and this is what would have been best for both parties.

It sounds like this good tenant character is a real smart ass. It's a good thing he DID NOT move in to our building, he probably would have started a bunch of problems. He probably would have tried to manipulate and take advantage of -------'s kindness. Take your stingy, greedy, manipulating self elsewhere.

The responses to mlecono really knock this place down a notch in my opinion of the place. Is this how the management is going to treat me as a tenant? They sound very unprofessional, like a child.

Agree with anonymous, what kind of apartment management would argue with someone online like that? It's one thing to state your case, but to call someone names and such is unprofessional. Kinda proves what I was saying all along huh? Think about it: they don't even deny that they didn't want to let me use the garage the night before I moved in! They're actually trying to argue that it is a normal thing, a good thing. LOL Idiots.

you cant blame the complex for not letting you use the garage a day before you moved in. Plus, if that's your reasoning for not moving in then you must be one of those people who b*tch and complain about the littlest things. If you had you stuff messed with in that garage before you move in you would be b*tching and moaning and wanting the complex to reimburse you! So dont get on this site and "grow up" to someone who is following the rules and trying to keep their job. Look and the mess your making here. Thank GOD you dont live in my complex.
