I was very clear when I was speaking to the rental agent that I wanted a quiet place and to be able to use my second bedroom as a home office. I realized in retrospect that my questions were charmingly diverted. It sounds like a herd of elephants live upstairs, I can hear their pipes groan, their toilets flush, their dishwasher and washer/dryer. Apartments to each side are quiet, but I have checked and this noise level between floors is the norm.

Secondly, the only "cable" choice is Direct TV through "Clear Channel." It took three trips and four phone calls to get the system hooked up properly.

In my section, one cannot get SBC DSL, which I've always had luck with. I had to get "Ygnition" which is supposed to be a T-1 line, but is slow, erratic, and after the first 6 months they expect me to pay $50 per month.

Worst of all, it turned out this unit does not even have two phone lines, as one of my two "guaranteed" phone lines was diverted to another unit. The manager actually told me to take this up with the phone company, that they had made the "guarantee." Apparently, she does not know, or chooses to pretend ignorance, that it is the complex that owns the inside wiring and is the complex that guaranteed me the two lines.

While the maintenance staff is helpful, the quality of materials, especially in the kitchen is very poor.

And, this place actually thinks they can, in violation of California landlord/tenant law,
require mandatory deducitons from the security deposit just because they don't use the word "non-refundable." I know better, but most of the tenants I would assume do not.

These units rent quickly because of the location and the fact that the grounds are well-maintained. It was for me, the worst mistake I've ever made in choosing a place to lease and will not stay one day beyond my lease term.... look elsewhere!
