Run Away...

It's really my own fault for moving here... I really didn't like the property the moment I saw it, but (thanks to a job transfer) had to move up here and stay within Equity to avoid breaking my lease. We tried to make the best of it and remain positive... I will say that it's great having the park down below (makes my puppy happy!) and the residents are fantastic, but there's still no way I'd recommend living here. Here's why:
- We're finally moving into a larger, newer property that allows large dogs (most Equity properties do), has a w/d in the unit, and has a fire place for LESS than we're paying here...
- The park area is well maintained, but we live in the back buildings near the rock face and it's in disrepair. It doesn't help that people don't clean up after their dogs.
- The office staff is for the most part entirely inept. They botched scheduling for the only 2 maintenance requests we ever had, and one was quite important (busted toilet). I won't even get into how many times we had to go down there to sorth through our lease and notice to vacate...
- The property isn't safe. Maybe it's just our location, but there have been a number of burglaries in surrounding units in the time we've been here... it's not uncommon to see the police patrol through for that very reason. If you inspect the property, just take a look at the windows... you'll see what I mean. We had to buy a piece of wood to wedge behind the windows so that they wouldn't open (the locks are worthless), but it really is unreasonable to charge so much for an apartment unit without decent locks... Also, the parking area near us isn't lit well at all.
- The units are just very old. The car ports near us are warping and rusting... the appliances are ancient... You can tell our walls have been through a beating, and the bathroom door was put on upside down so that the handle is about eye level for me. (Kind of unrelated, but I wanted to point out that there really is absolutely no attention to detail.)
For this price, you can find something better. If you don't really have a choice but to move in (like us), be very particular about the location of your unit and do whatever you can to actually inspect it before you sign your lease.
