Larkspur Shores is a series of up and downs. You get to live in Marin County, which is impressive to say at parties. You get to live close to the ferry. There's a great park where people take their dogs to run and poop right in the middle of the complex. (Note to dog lovers: Is it really humane to keep a 75 pound dog in an APARTMENT') But the fun ends there. Since moving in things have gone from bad to worse. Stucco that was peeling since last summer is still peeling. Covered parking has been damaged just as long. Now seismic retrofit is occurring, and has been occurring for several months. Construction workers and heavy equipment are commonplace. Yet during all of this drama somehow the management feels the market rate is rising. In fact, for my unit it's risen over $250 in the past 3 months!
Higher rent comes with a social cost, of course. More units are being taken up by multiple people splitting the rent rather than singles or single-parent families. So parking is more scarce, and the renters will no doubt get younger. So the unintented consequence of their greed is that they're going to have people with lower incomes moving in together to higher priced apartments which will bring downt he standard of living for everyone. Good job, management.
But here's the real problem with Larkspur Shores: the noise. Yes, construction noise is an ALL-DAY problem, but the real noise issue is at night. These apartments are constructed poorly. You can hear your neighbors on the phone, having sex, stomping above you, parties below you - Everything.
I pity the fools who move in here at the new "market" rates. The bland interiors and shoddy construction of these units is simply not worth the money. Period. Professionals who expect privacy, quiet evenings and no parking drama will be in for a big surprise.

Construction is an all-day huge issue for me. I moved here from another state and wasn't told of any construction. I'm looking to leave ASAP.
I also understand that young people live here, but I definitely get a ghetto sense about the place. As a working professional, not what I was looking for at all. althought it is reasonably price for "Marin" and close to decent shopping and restaurants.
