I swear on my life that this is the worst apartment I've ever lived in. Do not move here under any circumstances. The place looks great on the outside but is horrible on the inside. Get ready to be robbed blind by Lyons Apartments. Before moving in, I was lied to about what direction my apartment would face, as well as being lied to about the cleanliness of the ocean. There is a reason that you almost never see anyone swimming in that ocean--it's polluted. The direction your apartment faces does matter quite a bit. Facing toward the ocean will give you a nice view and perhaps a little bit more quiet. Facing any other direction will give you a view of dirty Long Beach, but much worse, it will give you the noise from Ocean Boulevard. Between 5 AM and 7:30 AM, be prepared to be woken up constantly by the traffic. The single paned crappy windows will let in all the noise. They will also let in all the cold. At night time you will freeze during the winter months. The space heater built in the wall doesn't do a thing. Wait till you see your electric bill go up to heat the water. Yes, the water is heated electrically and will cause your electric bill to be over $100 a month for electricity! Ask the property managers to take a look at your space heater or electrical problems and they will say "sorry, we don't know what's wrong." That's all. You are locked in a lease and are forced to pay them money, so they don't care how uncomfortable you are. They don't care that your electric bill is so high. It's not their money. On top of that, you are forced to pay for water and forced to buy renter's insurance. The building also exclusively uses Verizon for internet, so you have to have a phone line with them for DSL internet. This rules out the option of only using a cell phone for your phone use and will cost you $60 a month for internet. Be careful using the laundry machines in the basement. They won't clean your clothes but the previous person's load will have the bleach ruin your clothes. On the move out, be prepared to be raped for every penny possible. Say goodbye to your security deposit. Cleaning costs, painting the wall costs, any and everything. Make sure you list every thing wrong with the apartment upon moving in. I didn't list that the carpet was used and stained and was charged for an entire carpet replacement. Don't make the same mistake because the property managers will capitalize it. The property managers are just kids who can't and/or won't help with your problems but will try to get every last penny out of you because of the pressure from their bosses. Speaking of which, calling Lyons corporate themselves won't get you any further with the problems that you have. They don't care either because they are all about their money, not yours. For your own well being, DO NOT MOVE INTO THESE APARTMENTS. YOU WILL REGRET IT.

I am a current resident and also lived here previously for over 9 years in the 1990's (feel free to read my previous review). My electric bill has NEVER been over $50 a month, and usually runs between $40-50. My water bill is $16 per month. I don't see anything "horrible on the inside" about this building. When you sign a lease on an apartment ANYWHERE, you should make sure you see the apartment you will actually get before signing the lease Yes, they certainly DO allow that here!!. It's very simple...make sure the apartment # on the lease you sign is the apartment you looked at and liked before you signed the lease and do a walk-thru with the leasing agent the day you sign!! Everyone has different things they like and don't like. Some people like the feel of living in the city and don't mind traffic noise (etc) and like the city view but others can't stand it. My apartment is above Ocean Blvd on the west side of the building and personally I don't notice traffic noise at all, maybe because I've lived in the area for so long. Some people hate morning sun and would be miserable on the east side of the building and some people are the opposite. It's up to each person to take responsibility for choosing a home that works for them. Yes, you are required to buy renter's insurance. Mine costs about $8 a month, and anyone with a brain in their head knows we should all have insurance. The building does NOT "exclusively use Verizon for internet" You can use ANY DSL or dial-up provider of your choosing. When I moved in I had Earthlink DSL and recently switched to Verizon because the price of $29 a month was better and the service is also better. I have had absolutely no issues with the laundry room. It is currently kept cleaner than it ever was when I lived here previously. The only issue I have is that my apartment gets hot in the late afternoon during the summer but I have noticed the property management company has been installing a/c in some of the units as they become vacant. So figure out what you like and don't like before signing a lease here or anywhere else and then enjoy your home, wherever it might be!

How extensive is the plumbing problem? What about reports re: roofing damage and falling/drooping ceilings?
