Not a good deal at all - but nice

The best thing about the place is the location. The circle area is quick to get on the freeway, has some stores and eateries within walking distance, and close to the beach area.
The apartment interior is actually very nice, much better than others Ive seen. The central air is nice, and the carpet was brand new, as well as appliances seemed never used. The porch was nice although the trees dropped a lot of debris on it and very messy.
All of the residents seemed very friendly, more than other placed Ive lived.
But the reason I cant recommend the place is because of the high cost and the management. I signed a four month lease, and they said it would not increase much afterwards. It went up $300 for month to month after that. $1800 for a one bedroom is just really excessive. If you sign a year lease you are probably ok, in hindsight I would have liked to move hear earlier and signed a lease. But once you are in, they may screw you soon as the lease is up. The monthly bill for the water/sewer/trash was unexpected and too high. They charge HIGH costs for cleaning when you leave and take from your deposit, about half for just 4 months in the apartment.

I can confirm that they will raise your rent approx 12% after the year lease is up. I can also confirm that the company which services the water/sewer/trash was sued in a class-action lawsuit, because I was notified and awarded restitution (I was a tenant for 3 years).
Stay away from Archstone, they are scumbags who raise your rent huge amounts during lease renewals.
