When I moved in in 2003, the place was a bit run down, but livable in an old-hotel kind of way. In 2006, a new owner came in with grand ideas of how to fix the place up... and then proceeded to gut the place, and then did not finish the job. Plus, we have had to form a tenant's association to force him to stop violating LA codes (which caused the city to step in on the tenants' behalf due to code violations). The rate they charge to park your car there ($150 a month!!!) is insane. Do yourself a favor- find another place.

Addendum: I have moved out of the Ancelle- They are currently gutting my old apartment and giving it the "New York loft" style treatment (bare brick walls, re-do the kitchen, etc.) Same tiny place, just a lot more money for it. The only good thing I can say about that old apartment was that it had decent closet space; and that's not saying much.
