Great place to live

I have lived at Broadcast Center for almost 18 months. It's a great place to live and I'm actually very surprised by other comments listed here.

The rents are not the lowest in town - but considering the amenities and the location (next door to Grove/Farmer's Market), they are the most reasonable of any in the surrounding area. (Palazzo, Park La Brea, etc.)

I don't have knowledge of any of the events mentioned here by others (police events, theft in garage) and have had no issues with neighbors or theft. Management has always been responsive and helpful, fixing maitenance problems I report not super quickly, but within a few days (never had a critical, time-sensitive issue though...)

This is a particularly great building is you're younger, though there is a mixed population of hip, younger tenants and older immigrants (mostly Russian I believe) that actually give the plave a sense of a little town - a rare thing in a big city.

My now 18 year old son was 16 when we moved in - and he resists moving anywhere else, and in fact would like to have an apt. here for his first place too. Can't beat the location - and with the food store right downstairs and the park across the street added to the Grove/Farmer's Market next door - a lot of other places pale in comparison. By the way - I'm in my 50's and walk/jog in the park across the street (Pan Pacific) almost everyday. It's a great place - and of course there are some homeless who camp out there sometimes...but they actually sit and play cards in the daytime, or just congregate to talk and smoke cigarettes. They are not threatening in the least - and what park in LA doesn't have a homeless population' I would probably pass on jogging in there at night - but in the daytime, it's great - and filled with families, particularly on the weekends. I feel totally safe there and so do the many, many people who congregate there to excercise and sit/sun on the lawns.

I have been considering moving when my current lease is up here - Sept 1st. I have been searching everywhere in the city for other 2- bedroom apts from $2000 - 2500 (not looking in the valley, just on this side of the hill). I have not found any better value on this side, after looking everywhere from downtown to Santa Monica/Marina del Rey. There are some cheaper apts - but not as well located - and in particular the gym here is better than many, and some don't have fireplaces, which matters to me.

In the Marina, you can find comparative large complexes with full services for about the same price - but then you're that far west...so unless you work on the West Side, there's a trade-off there. Also some comps along Wilshire and in Larchmont - just a matter of location preference, and I keep coming back to wanting to live with the Grove outside my door if I'm going to pay about the same price.

Anyway - I found this site in searching for alternative apartments and thought this complex was getting a bad rap. I think anyone who can afford this level of rent should definitely check this place out in their search. FYI, when comparing my rent notes, I have the 2 bdrm/loft here - on the top floor in a great location overlooking the pool. So I'm likely paying among the highest rents in the building.
