I have had the WORST experience at the Broadcast Center. The management treated me with such disdain and disrespect-- even when I was simply asking a question. I've spoken to many other residents who have gotten the same treatment.

The leasing office is open such inconvenient hours (10 am - 6 pm weekdays), so it's impossible for a working person to meet with the leasing officers. When I got locked out of my apartment, they REFUSED to let me back in, even though they had my spare key and I had provided proof of identity. They told me to call a locksmith. They don't accept packages from USPS, so you are forced to go to the post office for anything larger than an envelope. They won't accept large packages from FedEx either. And if the package is important, don't worry, you won't be able to pick it up anyway because the office is closed by the time you get home from work.

They are incredibly disorganized and unprofessional. The whole time I lived in the building, AIMCO sent mail to my apartment addressed to former residents. Some of the letters had "final notice" stamped on the front, as if these long-gone residents had failed to pay their rent. AIMCO doesn't even know who's living in the building!

5 months into a 6-month lease, I got a letter on my door saying I had never provided proof of income. 1) I did provide proof of income and 2) it took them 5 months to notice that they were "missing" this documentation! Terrible management.

In addition, the apartment building itself is not worth the asking fee. The kitchen and bathroom are so cheap-- some of my cabinets wouldn't open because they collided with each other. The doors are cheap and hollow. The walls are so thin, you can hear everything your neighbors do. My closet door only opened halfway, so I had to squeeze in to get dressed every morning. I couldn't open my bedroom blinds because the opened right onto the exterior walkway, and everyone could see into my room. The carpets are white, and no matter how diligent you are, they look horrid after a few weeks. The building has no system for recycling, so I had to take my cans and bottles down the street if I wanted to recycle.

They're constantly renovating the communal spaces. At first I thought the building was very proactive, but it NEVER STOPPED FOR 6 MONTHS. Communal spaces are unusable when they're being remodeled constantly. When communal amenities break, the management feels no responsibility to fix them. Another resident I know asked about the men's sauna because it was broken for over 4 months. The resident explained that he paid for that amenity, and he would like it fixed eventually. The management responded that amenities are a privilege, and they could be taken away at any time without notice.

If I had known, I never would have moved into the Broadcast Center. The management treated me like a second class citizen, and I can't tell you how many headaches it caused. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

You hear this story time and time again by past and present tenants of all AIMCO properties. AIMCO is the 3rd largest slum lord in America. If you rent from an AIMCO apartment you will live to regret it. Visit www.malibucanyonapartments.com. This guy sued AIMCO and won.
