Yo!

A real honest review

I think everyone must realize by now that the ones that usually review these things are either deadbeat losers who have been kicked out (who obviously write that the place is horrible) or the managers themselves (who write glowing reviews of how the place is so wonderful)

A little about me: i am a professional who has a graduate degree who made approx. 67k to 73k when i lived there and was between the ages of 24 to 27.

So i will try to break this down to several categories that i think would be of interest to a potential renter

Location and Safety: The location is good and bad. I would say it borders a nice area- Marina Del Rey, and a really bad area-Inglewood. Basically, once you go down braddock past centinella, it gets really bad really quickly. All this being said, no one has ever broken in to my car during my stay at casa de marina (CDM from here on out) nor have i really been assaulted nor anything along those lines. there are times that a helicopter flies overhead shinning a light down between the buildings which really freaked me out. So jumping over to the good part, CDM is not too far from anything, that means to downtown, the beach, santa monica, westside, and the southbay. CDM is really close to the airport too which is really convenient as well.

Management: Here I can not say anything negative about the management. To be honest, i have read some of the other reviews on here and i think that they came from bitter ex tenants who probably had problems with paying the bills on time or were probably unpleasant people to begin with. i did have a problem with the shower once (it wouldnt turn off) and got it resolved immediately. also, i got most of my deposit back, probably lost about 200 but that was reasonable since i left the apt pretty gross. my roommate and i had lots of spills and the carpet was just plain nasty when we left.

Apt quality itself and facilities quality: The apt itself is not too bad. i got my 2 bedroom apt (single bath) at a really good price and it was pretty good. the thing that sorta annoyed me is that the quality of everything just seemed a little bit on the crappy side (youre definitely not moving into a luxury apt). the bathroom really annoyed me because there was no fan and very little ventilation. red marks (mold') eventually starts appear on your ceiling due to the moisture. you dont really need an ac unit, but 1 to 3 weeks of the year, it does get hot as hell in CDM. the fireplace was definitely used a lot in my apt, but it still looked like a piece of crap that was built by fisher price. as for the facilities, i rarely used them. the pool and jacuzzi just seemed to be dirty all the time. i saw people cleaning them, but they still just seemed dirty. the gym is located almost underground and doesnt get very good ventilation. its useable, but i rather sign up for a real gym. the same goes for the party rooms, which i have used a few times. the air in the party rooms gets really stale and gross, but i have thrown successful poker nights down there. another beef i had with the party rooms is that they close down around 10ish so you cant really get things too crazy in there. so i guess i could have made it really simple by saying that the amenities are useable but not that nice. the laundry room sucked. i dont know why, but whenever i washed my clothes there, it would never rinse for more than 1 minute. so my clothes would barely be washed, and come out soapy. i can not explain how much frustration i went through with this.

noise: well it is a fairly big complex and it does get pretty noise sometimes. if anyone within a 2 apt radius of you is having sex, a fight, party, or "insert any other noisy activity here" youre going to hear it. it wasnt too much of a problem for me, but i can imagine it annoying some people.

pets: no dogs, but cats are allowed with a deposit. there used to be a dog crap problem, but i didnt really notice it anymore till the end. people dont seem to carry bags with them when they do walk their dogs though, so i am assuming that someone has been picking up the dog crap or the dogs have learned to crap outside.

my reason for leaving: to be honest, i ended up getting a better job and wanted to just upgrade my life a little bit. living in the same apt complex for more than 3 years can get depressing because you see people moving in and out while youre there and you feel as though your life isnt moving forward. to further elaborate on improving my life, some of the people (i would say around 5%) are kinda ghetto in this complex and the proximity of the apt complex to the ghetto is a little too close for comfort. most of the people that i have met in CDM have been pretty cool and i have made some pretty good friends when i was there. as mentioned before, i did leave on good terms with the managers and i cant really see them being unfair or unreasonable to anyone unless they are given a good reason to do so. they may be young, but they are pretty smart guys, 2 from u of michigan and 1 from harvard. i guess i really wanted to drive that point home because i feel that they have received unfair criticism in the other reviews. hopefully it will be fairly obvious to any intelligent person that i am not one of the managers either because i am also giving some fairly negative points about the complex as well. k6tKKzmJrmATU2ap682S
