great design, but they ripped me off

The architecture in this place is great. I had a two-level loft apartment with lots of sunlight streaming into the high windows during the day. The place was modern and clean, although the construction seemed a bit light - the walkways seem to involve a lot of wire and stucco, and I had some neighbor noise coming in through the walls.

The neighborhood is not great but may have improved since then - I believe there has been some revitalization in the past few years (new Starbucks, etc) I was annoyed by kids selling magazines, but the management made me remove the No Solicitng sign from my door. I lost some sleep from some jerk pulling the fire alarm periodically, and the security alarm went crazy after power outages.

The laundry room is in the parking garage and is an adventure. Probably 10% of the time my clothes would get soiled from the machine. The parking spaces are tight - mine especially so because it was next to a post and a fairly wide car (old station wagon) next to it, so I scratched up my celica on the post a couple of times squeezing in and out.

The management was courteous but I felt they ripped me off. After over a year of on-time rent payments, I was late by a couple of days because I was on a business trip, and they charged me a $75 late fee. Later, when I terminated the lease, they said if the late fee was the issue, theyd refund it, but too little, too late. Especially after I let them show off my apartment to a prospective tenant who went around measuring everything in my place.

I left my place vacant for a few weeks while I started my new job and returned to finish cleaning up the apartment and return the key, only to find they had already leased my parking spot to someone else, while I was still paying rent. And to top it off, they deducted the final pro-rated rent payment from my deposit, although I had already paid that at the beginning of the month. I sent them a letter about it, but they still owe me that $200.

To sum it up, nice-looking place, but there were some nasty inconveniences, and they still owe me money.
