Illegal practices - bad management - dont live here

The worst part about living here was the way management treated me when I wanted to move out. I completed my 1 year lease and was on month to month for a few months after. I decided it was time to leave and find a better place. Once I had entered the leasing office I talked with a woman named Caren, the manager. She then told me that just comming in and giving my 1 month notice wasnt enough. These are her words "You can only give your 1 month notice on the first day of the month." and "If you would like to give me your 1 month notice now (I believe it was around the 14th of the month) you will be charged a lease breaking fee of $600 plus the prorated portion of your next months rent. Both of these claims are incorrect and lies. So I'm upset of course and decide it's worth it to pay an extra $600 to get out of there and put this behind me. So the next day or two, I bring a cashiers check for the $600 plus the next months prorated rent. Caren accepts it and makes me sign some papers. I ask "Is this everything' Do you need anything else from me'" They say no. Now, about a week or two into the next month I get a note on my door saying "Pay or Quit" meaning I own them rent for that month or I quit my lease. So I go to the office and ask Caren what that note is about assuming it was a mistake. I explained how I already paid up to the 14th of that month plus that $600 lease break fee (illegal if lease is over) and she then claimed "You still owe Centre Pointe for a full months rent." So now I get very upset and consult lawyers. Caren claimed she was a law student, she knows what she's talking about and she was trying to "help" me by explaining all that. All she was trying to do was scare me into paying. I found tons of information online, on the CA consumer website, contradicting every claim Caren made. Once confirmed by the lawyers I simply told her I'm not paying, turned in keys and left.

So in summary, Caren attemped to rip me off and did actualy get away with an extra $600. She and I'm sure the management company as well are crooks and can not be trusted.

If any of you fell for that and did actualy pay them a lot more then what you should have I'm sure you can take legal action and get your money back.

Good Luck, and to the rest......why risk living here' It's not worth it. BuLYzGcKAVo8MQPlcXJq
