These people are THIEVES!!!!!!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

I was a tenant for about a year from December 2005 till December 2006. During this time Andrew was the manager of the Cherokee Apt's. He was the worst apartment manager EVER! Constantly bugging us for petty reasons. He was soon fired while I was still a tenant. I am seconding the last review/comment, rent is due on the first and not a day later. If rent is not paid on the first they charge a 10% late fee. They have strict rules in regards to leaving things on your patio, and hallways, and are slow at responding to repairs. At one point in time (during winter) it rained, and water was leaking from the roof in to the walls, causing the paint to bubble up and peel off, which also soaked the cheap carpet. It was a mess! The apartments may seem like they are safe (with the gated entry) but could not be farthest from the truth. We had to call the police 2 times during our 1 year stay due to a crazy neighbor and a crackhead trying to break into our apartment claiming he lived there. When it came time to move, one of the upper managers came and looked at the apartment and mentioned nothing wrong with the apartment and actually made a comment on how clean it was. After the move I waited for the deposit check to be returned (FULL deposit minus $75 for the cleaning fee), to be suprise I received a check for $300.00, this was $675.00 less than what I was expecting. On the back of the check it said "by signing here, you are accepting this deposit return and may not claim anything else owed to you". It came with 2 receipts, one for new paint (about $500.00, which they claimed I am only covering for 50% of the cost) and another receipt for waxing the floors (about $200.00). I immediately contacted them and tried to get this resolved professionally. I got the complete run around and was treated with such disrespect when dealing with thier uneducated employees. I cashed the check and looked into small claims.

I wrote a letter (in order to start the small claims process) demanding this money be returned to me within 2 weeks (by law they have 21 days after move out to return deposit) and explained to them the apartment did NOT need to be repainted, as it was painted right before I moved in, and there were no marks, holes, or blemishes. I also educated them on their own lease agreement and California law. They cannot charge for normal wear and tear. Well I ended up getting my complete deposit returned.

MESSAGE TO ALL!!!! Dont let any property management company swindle you. California law is very pro-consumer and you are protected. If you feel like something is wrong and you are being treated unfairly, or something SHOULD be illegal, chances are IT IS!!!!

Bottom line these people are snakes and thieves, dont let them come up on you!
