Anyone who has talked to the new manager (Laine) can tell that she cares about the issues that the last owner (RW Selbey) left. She's cleaning up someone else's mess so that we can have a nice place to live. Seriously... I think we should be doing everything we can to help her - not making it more difficult for her. I want to live in a building where the managment cares enough to post notices and fix problems - and from what I've seen, the new owner (Prometheus) and manager (Laine) are really trying.
You people who were complaining about everything in your posts, said yourself that the building has been much cleaner based on the efforts of the new manager. She's been here, what, 3 weeks'!!! Give her a chance to get some stuff done. Your complaining about the process is only going to make it harder on her.
Here are some examples of your getting in her way - quit spreading information that isn't true just because you're too lazy to get the whole story!
1. The new owner (Prometheus) plans to make improvements to the building. What's wrong with living in a nicer building' If you want to live in a dump, move out.
2. You complain about all the issues you've had since you've moved in, but when the new owner (Prometheus) tells you that they have plans to do something about it, you complain that the process is going to be an inconvenience' How does that make sense'
3. Yes, they are treating the building for termites. Isn't that a good thing' You may not have had them in your apartment, but some of us do, and I am glad they are taking the necessary steps to do what the last owner didn't.
4. In the notice they sent, they said that they would explain the procedure and answer any of our questions at a meeting on April 1st. That doesn't really sound to me like they are trying to avoid any responsibility - in fact to the person who posted the comment that they aren't offering us any compensation for being out for the two nights, I would suggest you check with the manager (Laine) before you post inaccurate information. At the April 1st meeting, they are giving out $400 checks to each apartment with a list of Hotels where they have arranged discounted rates.
5. To the guy who posted that the owner (Prometheus) wasn't interested in choosing a green alternative - you, too, should do your research before posting inaccurate information. Vikane is completely safe when performed correctly - and the owner (Prometheus) said in their letter that Terminix is the company who will be performing the treatment (who hasn't heard of Terminix - do you think they've done a few of these'). And while I'm also a huge proponent of "Green" alternatives, I think you also have to look at the efficacy of the treatment. The only other treatment available is a heat treatment, but according to all research (done by professional groups), this is not as effecitve when done on a large building. It is only effective for "Spot Treatments" or at most, a single room. Would you rather they treat the building in sections and take 3 months to do it versus the 3 days' There's also the possibility that the heat treatment could cause a fire! I don't see how that is a better alternative! Again - if you don't like it, move out!
6. Turning Condo' Where did you come up with this' Have you read any information on Prometheus' They focus on "Long Term Investments". Read the press releases and company information on their website. And stop spreading information that isn't true!
7. I'm not sure what memo you got saying that they were threatening to not allow dogs, but from what I've seen, they're very dog friendly. The manager (Laine) has a bowl of dog treats in her office and offers one to my dog every time we see her. There was a sign in the elevator reminding everyone to pick up after their dog, and if that's what you're refering to, then it's just one more example of how you're twisting things to fit your point of view.
Lastly, if you don't like living here, why are you fighting so hard to stay'
Get out and let the rest of us who do like it, enjoy our apartments without neighbors knocking on our doors and sticking petition crap in our door frames. We're renting!! And the beauty of renting is that you aren't tied to the place.
So if you don't like their plans to make the place nicer - go find another dump to live in, because some of us are happy that there's a new owner/manager that's doing what the old one wouldn't!

you seem to think a tenant can just pick up & leave just because they don't like what's going on. moving is a very costly undertaking & breaking a lease is even more costly. i don't think you understand that tenants who have been at Franklin Plaza for awhile have been through hell! please forgive tenants for being a little weary of the promise of "improvements". many promises have been made in the past & "improvements" were barely made (none to the interiors of the units) while rents continued to sky rocket! the security in the bldg. has been horrible (has your car been broken into yet?). there have been many "nice" manager's over the years, but they do not make the decisions so ultimately it doesn't matter that they treat your dog nicely! just so you know there have been several notices about the intention to turn the bldg. into condos. just because the new management hasn't said anything yet doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. i know you are trying to be positive & that's great. it isn't easy to find a good place to live in this town & i think a lot of people thought this was going to be it for them, but it has not been a pleasant experience for most people. by the way while you are defending this new company (do you work for them?!) can you please ask them about the brown water?

Is it just me or does this post seem to be coming directly from the management. They are trying to pretend they are a resident but it is obvious they are the management.

I think a quote I heard in the business says it best... "A good property manager is always an assumed amenity that is never listed on the brochure." I for one am glad that you posted this back in March and we have had some time to reflect on this "amazing" management staff. To be frank I live in one of the renovated units and for the most part I really like the finishes. The community in general isn't half bad... I can put up with construction and the ongoing improvements (even if it takes 6 weeks to replace carpet in a hallway). I would consider myself a very easygoing person.
Sure, I have had my share of sleepless nights because of the noisy neighbors with no response from your "security". Sure I have been scolded in a shower when the temperature fluctuated drastically from luke warm to steaming hot and back again every minute or so (which by the way is a violation of city code). I have dealt with walking up 6 flights of stairs because the elevator to my floor is not working for 4 days straight. I have experienced people parked behind me in my own space so I was an hour late for work. All of that was a nuisance, but I could deal without complaining.
What I can complain about is this "amazing" management you so feverishly defend. I have been graced with the experience of many apartments and their managers... and I have to say your team is the worst.
So many times has my rent check been lost only to receive a notice on my door (I have always paid on the 1st)? So many times have I called with a question or maintenance request only to be given a runaround and ultimately told I could not be helped. Jack- don???t answer the phone if you are not in a position to help someone... don't make excuses that you are not at your desk... it gets old after the 3rd or 4th time. The resident relations expert has no people skills she is abrasive with no people communication skills. You never tell someone to call their lawyers if they have an issue. What do you think your job is?
I cannot comment on this manager.... she hides behind the rest of her staff and when I ask to speak with her I am told she is either busy or I simply need to speak with Jack or the wonderful resident relations person.
Wow, I truly never realized how annoyed by their ineptitude I was until I typed it out. This is your job, I have mine and do it well... step up and stop hating it, maybe you might find you can actually perform up to expectations if you try.
FYI the rest of the staff, maintenance and office, is great it???s just so sad that a few in leadership can ruin the community.
