Not that bad actually

Contrary to some other reviews posted, I actually like the apartment. It's in a great location, incredibly convenient to students and staff at any part of UCLA. 5 min from the med school! The loft rooms are spaced quite well, with a lot of room and large closets for both bedrooms. Both have convenient bathrooms as well. The balcony is pretty big for Westwood standards. Overall, the rooms are sufficient.
There are a few drawbacks. If you live on the side facing Hilgard, expect a lot of noise from passing traffic during rush hours, and also be prepared for shouting from drunken sorority girls late at night. The fixtures are a bit outdated, but all fully functioning. The huge windows and high ceiling of the split-level loft apartments are a big draw, but they also translate to higher heating bills in the winter. Appliances work fine, even though baking anything for longer than twenty minutes will cause the smoke detector to go off unless the balcony door is opened.
No one uses the pool. The elevator does break down sometimes, but not more than once every two months or so. The stairs, though, are stupidly outside so that you have to exit the garage, go up the stairs, and re-enter the apartment building in order to get to your unit. They have tried to instill measures to prevent vandalism in the parking lots this past year or so.
The manager and her husband are actually quite friendly. The manager herself is especially nice, I think, and the two respond to maintenance requests fairly quickly. Although, it's true that the manager's husband will use his keys to go into your apartment if no one responds to his "Maintenance!" call.
There have been a lot of plumbing problems this year, but most of them are fixed within a day. The bathroom sinks are designed very badly. The faucet is too short to fully extend into the sink, so that water sprays everywhere if you put, say, a towel under the faucet. The toilet flushes for a long time. Sometimes the shower head leaks.
There are problems, yes, but overall the place is comfortable. The apartment is very roomy, with lots of storage space. One large closet for each bedroom, cabinets in each bathroom, two closets in the main living area, and many cabinets in the kitchen. The high ceiling, useless fireplace, chandelier, large windows, and balcony are nice features for the aesthetics of the apartment. The lobby is cleaned regularly, as are the hallways. Everything is fully functional in the apartment itself, and nothing is really very wrong with the apartment. Not a bad deal for an apartment of this size on this side of UCLA.
