Technically next door

I actually live in the building next door, but the two are connected by a hallway and run by the same manager. I don't think I hate it here as much as some of the other people. We have a terrible roach problem that will probably never go away unless they bomb the place and make everyone leave for a few days. And the elevator was constantly broken when we first moved in. (No problems recently.) Walking up to the 4th floor with armloads of groceries was not fun...! We had a leak through our light fixture in the kitchen, but they literally fixed it within 30 minutes. The (former) manager was always very nice to me, and this was the only problem we've had in our apartment. Don't really know anything about the new managers. They are remodeling all of the apartments as they become vacant though, so there is constant hammering and pounding and a linger smell of paint all of the time. When we first moved in they were shutting off the water about 1-2 times a week. Now it's about every other week. We occasionally have low water pressure and lukewarm showers, but not bad enough to really complain. Our building does not have parking, but street parking is not too bad once you get the hang of it. Constant sirens as we are only two block from the fire station. I don't really hear the next door neighbors, though we do get a lot of noise from the hallway (right next to the elevator) and the breezeway between the buildings (our windows face the building next door).
I would say this apartment is about average. Some negatives, but no more so than any other place you may stumble upon. I love the character of the building w/ hardwood floors, big windows, built-in shelving, etc. I'm moving out soon, but mainly because I need to be closer to work.
