Stay away from Essex.

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
The units are bright and spacious. That is about the only plus to living here. Ever since Essex Properties bought the building, things have gone downhill. They are doing a major renovation, and STILL raised the rent during construction. The people who work in the office are rude, condescending, and take their sweet time to fix any problem you might have. The walls are paper thin, and you can hear everything that goes on in the apartments around yours (not to mention the street). I would not recommend living here under.
