The building overall is great and well-maintained. Great people live within the building. Great downtown location central to everything. Pet-friendly. Great lobby parties. What to watch out for IS the obnoxiously high rent and money-hungry management. Forest City will do their best to take every cent out of your poor pocket despite the poor economy. It seems that they neglect to keep their residences satisfied. It makes me wonder why there are mover trucks in front of the building almost every other week. Guest parking (Thursday to Saturday evenings)has gotten worse throughout the year.
As a current resident, there are several disgruntled residences in the building. Do not let the resident associates/managers make you think otherwise. Their job IS to sell the building. Your best bet is to ask for opinions from people who currently live in the building. You will find residences walking in and out of the lobby or walking in and out with their dogs.
Front desk security is great during the day except for the night shift security who is clueless about his job. The security guy will go by the books down to a T no IFS, ANDS, or BUTs. I understand the concept of securing a building, but being military about everything makes you come off unwelcoming, cold-hearted, and retarded. Metro needs to higher a new nightshift security guard that doesn't have a stick up their buttocks.
About two months ago, Metro 417 has implemented a "new system" of how they rent out their available units. Keep note of the reviews on or after August 2009. I can guarantee that you will see more negative reviews in the months to come...
If you're considering Metro 417, I would play -----'s advocate and take all the negative reviews, including mine, into consideration. Forest City owns Metro 417, The Met, and Metlofts so if you're considering the other two buildings - beware! I have been a resident for over a year and a half. Trust me. I'm on your side. I can't wait for my lease to end...
Who dares disagrees with me review' Bring it on...

Didn't you know about the "obnoxiously high rent" when you moved here? I'm here 2 years now and don't have any complaints other than the street noise that's not the fault of bldg management or Forest City. My rent was reduced at last lease renewal and is comparable to other downtown apts of its size. I've had only friendly and helpful encounters with the people who work here. Still the best bldg in the area.

Honestly the physical appearance of the building was the only thing i was really into when i lived there. Speaking of noise, street noise is no.1, but come on now, there was this little dog barking all the frigging time, i remember i had to study and this barking dog was driving me crazy for 2 days straight (WEEKEND!), and it just keeps coming back over and over again after i had submitted a complaint. And there were definitely occasional party kids who stumble around and make noise in the hallway. I WAS THERE FOR THREE YEARS, SO I WOULD KNOW. If wasn't for school and the lease-term, i would've moved out earlier. I wrote a review earlier and now i have even more to add. After millions of phone calls, I finally found out they had taken every last cent of my deposit money even though i've cleaned my apartment completely after I had moved out, then i realized they even took part of my SECOND KEY deposit money, which i confronted the headquarters about over and over again, all i got was "We'll call you back", which they never did obviously. I'm interested to know what "new system" they have in regards to renting out available apartments. Anyway, just keep in mind that the worst part kicks in after you move out. Anyway, the funniest part is people that work for forest city keep coming back here to bash on WHOEVER that gives an honest and negative review, it's so obvious what they're trying to do!
