Run down and ragged Old Hollywood

New Hollywood is a grand old hotel which has fallen into dissrepair and neglect, and the same fate has befallen many of it's residents. Paint hangs peeling from the ceilings and all hall carpets are stained. Dead pigeons lie in the dry fountain and on the fire escapes. The people who live there are in similar shape. Many smoke freely in the halls and elevator, and the overall feeling is that this is a place where people are in various stages of hitting bottom as a result of drugs, alcohol, or various other addictions.

Look a little deeper, though, and a remarkable sense of potential appears. When it was built in 1926 this was a quality building. It must have been impressive. The great thing about neglect is that misguided remodels don't occur. This building is origional, and it is ripe for revitalization. Take a look at what was done with the Hillview in central hollywood and then take a look at this building. The New Hollywood has the potential to fundamentaly revitalize the adjacent East Hollywood area.

The apartments are great. Most are one bedroom and many have great views of downtown, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign. These bathrooms were never remodeled. That's why they still have ball and claw tubs and pedastel sinks. All units have crown mouldings, and are those doors mahogony underneath that thick paint'

The New Hollywood is not for the faint at heart. You need to be either quite edgy or a straight up drug addict in order to live here. Young professionals need not apply. At the same time, the potential for improvement is pretty much unlimited. This could become one of the great showplaces of East Hollwood. In the meantime, proceed with caution
