Years at this apartment: 1995 - 1995
I presently live in Indianapolis, IN and have contemplated moving back to Hollywood. When I lived in the building everything was in a state of good and healthy repair. When at CBS Television City last year, I walked by the building and noticed that some residents had air conditioners. When I lived there it got very hot in the summer not having a window air conditioner. It was convenient walking distance to Hollywood Blvd. and its' environs. This is a very historic building and was built as an actor's hotel in the 1920's and 1930's. Bing Crosby had his casting studio in the building at one time. I lived in unit 504 - a Junior 1 bedroom that had a wrought iron balcony with a French door - the view of L. A. was great. The bedroom was incredibly SMALL. The kitchen and bathroom were more than adequate. The elevator was certainly from another era: in the lobby a sliding door and opening door to enter and exit on the other side once getting to the desired floor. So 2 doors on each side of the elevator are utilized. The elevator would not accomodate a stretcher used by paramedics to evacuate my mother from the building when she sustained a fatal stroke. The paramedics had to carry her down 5 flights of stairs. The building; however, is a historical landmark and is part of the Whitley Heights historical district of Hollywood. Both Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow's homes are just up the street from the Ojai. Now - I would investigate more thoroughly if I had planned on moving there.
