You moved to DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES, which is very clearly in a state of gentrification. Meaning that the neighborhood very obviously still has many "undesirables" still living in it. Downtown in general makes no pretense otherwise. The "security guards" as you call them, are Courtesy Patrol Guards. They are there as a courtesy to patrol and report any incidents, they are not meant to be your personal police officers. Nor are they armed or trained in combat to protect you off the property. By the way, another tenant you scared into believing you mentioned this "attack in front of the building" at the Town Hall Meeting held about a week after your incident and the guard in question explained that the attack happened at the corner which is at least 30 yards from the "front of the building" and when you entered the building and informed him of the attack, he immediately called the police. The lead police officer who patrols the area was also at the meeting to give neighborhood statistics and added that per the report, the attacked person drunkenly swung at the homeless person, who in turn beat the heck out of the guy for being a tool. If you can't handle Downtown LA in it's transition phase it's in, then move to Westwood or something where you're "safe".
