towers vs. gardens'

I have lived in a garden apt. PLB for four years now, and honestly, I love it. Of course LA rents are generally too high, but I haven't been able to find a 2-bedroom for less than what we pay now (which is lower than the current rental rates, because my husband lived here for eight years before I moved in). You can't beat the neighborhood, especially if, like us, you prefer to walk everywhere you can. Our apartment is old and things do break, but maintenance is fairly responsive. We don't have AC and PLB would charge us $100/mo extra rent to put it in, but we really only need it 2 weeks out of the year. Termites are a problem - we keep having to replace floor tiles that they've munched through - but that seems to be a local hazard born of living on a slab of concrete with no basement. I see so many bad reviews of PLB on here, and I wonder if the worse experiences happen in the towers' I moved here from Brooklyn, so maybe my expectations are lower, too.

Doesnt seem like everyone liked living at ParkLaBrea. You should read the post title Leasing Agent a Liar! whoa!!!!! ....or the one Park La Brea management posts here under fake addresses. I did not realize the placve that I live in was such a soap opera. I thouught it was just me. |

PLB Mgmnt again? Like it is really getting better there for parking. yeah right! Unless there are a lot of vacancies there, you will have a parking problem. This just sounds like PLB mgmnt trying to up the rating here. A response to juliem10: I don't have a problem with people who like it in Park La Brea. I just have a problem with PLB mgmnt posting fake reviews here. I have not met anyone from PLB that liked the place well enough to go out and defend it like they do here. And the way they defend it smells like PLB mgmnt (parking is ok for L.A., beautiful views, best price for the area). They try to use just enough truth and then sugar coat it to make it go down ok. Just wait until you move in though, they may ask you to bend over. I am sure there are some people that like PLB but it has not been my experience that there are many. At least not in the ratios reflected here on this site. Some of the old people like it because they have been there for so many years but I don't think many of them use the web. Some of the young people like it because they don't know any better and I doubt many of them take the time to come here and post a review. PLB seems like a nice place until you get to know it. I just don't like the fake reviews that say how parking is getting better. How is that going to happen when they don't have anymore places to put the cars? Are they getting rid of some of the people? So that is a lie that must be pointed out to all the people that come here for an honest opinion. There are other lies that show up here and they must be pointed out. I think it is great if someone moved there from Orange County and loved it but don't tell people that you can find parking (don't get me started again), or all the other lies that get posted here. I hope you love it there. Peace and contentment is a good thing. Why don't you just be content that nothing bad is happening in your apartment. Sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. I think only PLB management would be this upset about these kinds of truths being posted here. If I were still living there and not having any of these problems, I wouldn't care what anyone said on this site; just as long as it was not happening to me. But these things did happen to people and they are posting them here. |

I wrote this original review. I'm honestly not management, though I know there's not much I can do to convince anyone of that. We have reserved parking spots, so we don't personally face the parking issues. I know my friends don't generally have problems finding spots when they come to visit, but again, that might just be our little corner of PLB. I will agree that maintenance, although quick to respond, is not very good at actually fixing things. Our doorknobs fall off too :-) I was just wondering how the experience varied from Towers to Garden Apts.

I live here. It is impossible to get maintenance to fix ANYTHING the first time. Even leaky faucets, or door knob issues.

to original poster, I think the gardens are better than the towers, though i live in the gardens now for near a decade. I would never live in the towers, just think of all the problems of plb compounded and squeezed into those awful towers.
I have a harder time than you laughing off the $100 a month airconditioning charge and the poorly managed parking situation. But the "market" prices for newly vacant PLB apartments like mine are 500-600 more, so i can see why so many are irate.
Hope you like dogs, anonymous, cause after many years of banning them, management just decided to allow them and their barking and their mess. Nice of them to find out what tenants want, eh?

I've lived in one of the tower apartments for a year and half now. I pay for a parking place in one of the garages, so I don't face the parking issues, but then, I've had to pay for parking everywhere I've rented and I don't find the parking rates here to be higher than the other places I've lived. I love that I can walk to almost everything I need, and though the rent is high I don't think it's worse than a comparable apartment anywhere else in LA.
Maintenance is a problem. When the guys finally come they've done a good job repairing the problems I have, but it takes more than one request to get their attention. That's really my only complaint so far--well, that and my neighbors cook cabbage and stink up the poorly-ventilated hallway, but that's not PLB's fault.

I have had nothing but problems here, the latest is that at 9 pm tonite Patrol came to say there were complaints about our professional baroque trio, playing some beautiful Teleman and Vivaldi. When I called Patrol later to find out who had complained I was told that they do not give out the name. Then I asked who to contact, since it is 10 and not 9 that all noise needs to stop. I got screamed at and hung up on. I called back to get the name of the nasty person and it is Jennifer Marsh. Why do these people have jobs when there are perfectly decent individuals who are without one. There is lots more very wrong with this place. Think three times about moving here.
