I've lived in one of the East0of-Hauser towers for eight years. Like everyone here, I love the neighborhood but am disgusted with PLB management. Now there is a massive renovation on my end, with towers being painted, trees pulled out, etc. We all got a letter telling us to keep our windows closed from 8A.M. to 5P.M every weekday. When I pointed out to the dimwit in the office that an apartment with no air-conditioning can't be closed up all day all through August, she didn't understand why this might be a problem. Uh.. can't they tell us which days they'll be painting our side of our tower' No, just never open a window all summer.
They are also renovating a huge number of newly vacant apartments so they can charge ridiculously high rent for them. One of these is next to mine, and they decided the way to cope with the huge amount of toxic debris left on the hallway carpets was to cancel all vacuuming during the renovation. I called every possible department day after day begging them to just send the usual guy to vacuum up the reeking, poisonous crap in the hallway. This has gone on for weeks. They always act reasonable and sympathetic, then do nothing. Remember, I'm only asking that the hallway be cleaned, which you would think would be standard.
I want to warn anyone thinking of moving in that all of my neighbors have had similar problems, and everyone loathes the management as well as the half-wit flunkies answering the phones. The most common thing said by PLB residents when they congregate is "Do you think I have grounds for a lawsuit'"

I lived there for five months, unknowing about all the problems until I moved in. That is of course because everything is sugar coated until you pay and sign a contract. After making the right phone calls and contacts I managed to get out of my lease and only had to pay one month's additional rent, which is not too much to pay to get out of "Dump La Brea". The company who owns these "projects" should be ashamed of themselves. Mostly because they take advantage of the elderly. If you live there, GET OUT. There are MUCH better apartments in the neighborhood available at the same price or mostly less expensive. AND they come with parking (not extra), security (for real) and MUCH MORE!!

Lawsuit DEFINITELY! I think most people dealing with your situation have a great shot... I have a good shot too for various reasons I don't think this apartment is going anywhere but down, and fast! There are so many people I know who have had enormous difficulties. I hope everyone working there just retires because the management needs revamping they don't conduct business properly and need to start over with a better equipped staff.
Good luck to you!

Funny, these sound like competing landlords who continually post on the PLB review sites...Sorry, guys, some of us do like living here. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Competing landlords? Ha. You one of the owners? Or maybe you live in the townhouses. The towers, especially east of hauser are horrid. There are twenty guest spots for five towers (thousands of residents). You have to call and reserve them, so good luck if you have someone decide to come by in the evening. And you'll have to give days advance notice for the weekend nights.
They do get around to sending service people out, but they don't do much half the time. And they're often ex-cons, so if you value your belongings, you'll want to restrict them from being there without your presence, which means things will take longer. Plus, they'll occasionally send out a notice saying that you have no choice, and they'll fine you if you don't let them in, which is probably one of those things that we should get a class action lawsuit for. Some of the people do try to help, but not everyone, and they have to speak with other people, and things get dropped along the way.

Competing landlords? Who has to compete with PLB? Anyone doing a little research will realize that the only thing PLB has is good looks but I guess that is how Los Angeles is, very shallow. PLB mgmnt used to post here a lot but I think I had too much fun with giving them a black eye. While there were people that did like living there when i was there, they were very few and usually not in the towers. Go to the west side of PLB and live in the garden apts. I have friends there and they do like it but there are still many problems. Do yourself a favor and read past reviews. It seems nothing has really changed and all are still accurate. Also notice the past PLB Mgmnt reviews so you can recognize when you see them. they sound like the guy on 9-13-2007 saying, "Competing landlords". That is exactly the stuff they say. It is easy to recognize a legit resident having something nice to say about PLB.
