Pretty Good Experience So Far

I read reviews on this site before I moved into Park La Brea so I wanted to share my experience with others doing the same. I live in one of the prime towers closest to the leasing office. I live on the 11th floor which has excellent views of the Hollywood Hills. My unit was totally renovated before I moved in and has two air conditioners. I pay more for my one bedroom as a result but to me it is worth it.

To state the obvious it can get warm in L.A. Usually leaving the windows open can make the unit bearable but I notice a lot of dirt and dust enters as a result. I would personally recommend a unit with a/c.

I pay the $70/mnth for a reserved parking spot as I work long hours and do not want to have to deal with trying to find a street spot late at night, which are usually full.

I've been here seven months so far and have had to call maintenance twice regarding my windows not opening or closing. The first time I called they responded the next day. The second time it took them two days. The problem was fixed each time so I had no problems there.

I pay to use the swimming pool and gym which has been fine. As far as gym's go at rental complexes PLB's is pretty good.

I haven't had any problems with neighbors or excessive noise.

I can be impatient and would like to see the elevators run faster but its something I've become use to.

Overall I can't say I've had any major complaints so far. I realize not everyone has had the same experience that I've had but mine has been pretty positive.

I don't know how responsive maintenance is today but other recent reviews have not been any better than when I was there. These guys were worse than the Three Stooges. I had a problem with my refrigerator where the compressor motor was burning up. The chemicals fumes that were coming off of this were so strong that it filled my entire kitchen/living room area. It smelled like gas and I called PLB Mgmnt and Maintenance about the problem right away. I told them that I couldn't find where it was coming from but I thought there was a danger of explosion due to the strong smell. They told me that it was a gas company problem and they would take care of it. I told them I was worried about my safety and was going to leave. I got back five hours later and nothing had been done. I opened all the windows before leaving and most of the smell had gone by then. I had a bad headache from exposure to the fumes earlier. I called PLB Maintenance and asked where they were on the gas issue. They said they didn't know what I was talking about. I explained the situation again and they told me that I was the one that would have to call the gas company. I asked if they cared if the apartment blew up or not. All I got was silence and then a confused, "sure we are". Somewhere along this conversation I am sure that I hung up on them out of frustration. I eventually figured out on my own that it was the refrigerator that was making the bad smell. PLB Maintenance never addressed the issue. Just imagine how dangerous it would have been if that was really a gas leak and they NEVER would have even given a @##$@$%^!!!!!! Ok, so now I tell them that my fridge is about to burn up and I need a repair. They never came to fix it. A week later the fridge completely failed. I called to let them know about the problem but they never came. It was on a Friday morning when I called and then went to work. I got home and nothing had been done. I called back and they asked what I wanted them to do on the weekend. There was only one repair guy on duty for the weekend and he was booked solid with work. I explained the situation again because they obviously had not taken any reports the first five or six times that I called. I told them it was not my fault they didn't do anything during the week when they had people there to take care of the problem. I had been calling them to come and take care of the issue before my food melted. They finally came out on Monday but it was too late by then. Unfortunately I had just purchased a fridge and freezer full of food. It was all ruined. If you can deal with this kind of super intelligent maintenance department, then move here. Otherwise, when you have maintenance issues, you just may want to kill yourself or someone else from sheer frustration. I cannot fully express how angry these people can make you just because they are so STUPID. Read the other comments from others with similar complaints and you will get some idea. It has been a while since I lived there but I don't think it has gotten any better. There was a huge complaint when they let go of most of their maintenance people in 99 or 2000. When they sold off all their maintenance yards and extra parking lots with the tennis courts, they let go of a lot of maintenance personnel. These are where all the new apartments went up all around PLB. I was told by some of the maintenance people (they protested outside of PLB for a while) that PLB Mgmnt had fired the existing maintenance crew and contracted with a cheaper crew. I don't know how all that worked but the basic thing I gathered from this was we were getting a less qualified group of people and there would be fewer of them. I doubt that PLB has changed this and they can't get back their maintenance yards. You do the math.

To JRfrogman: How long ago did you move out? I see you have responded to a number of the remarks. You are the one that talked about the EQ in '94 - did you even live there then? Sounds like you don't live here now ..... so why not give up and give your new landlord your problems and leave PLB alone

whatever his motives, frogman is just providing historical background --since nothing has changed at PLB, his comments are relevant. What are your motives, anonymous?
