...if you don't live in the towers it is better.
We moved into the 430 S Fuller tower in 1999, after a very hot summer in our south-facing apartment - which explains why it was so cheap with no A/C! - we quickly switched to a two-story town-house. Its lovely. Hardwood floors, a strong A/C unit that keeps the downstairs quite cool even on the hottest days, and the heater can keep the whole place warm in the winter.
We have had our share of shenanigans since moving here though... our first Summer the idiot gardeners decided to take out a huge shade tree from our backyard, which jacked up our A/C bills, they said it was because of mold but I've never seen any here in Los Angeles, let alone in our building, this is a desert after all. We had them install a shade over our patio, to try and beat the heat, and they have dinged us $20 a month ever since and that was 5 years ago!
Maintenance can be great, and horrible, it just depends on what is wrong. When its something serious, they send out the A Team, when its something minor you won't see them for days and may as well do it yourself.
I will say that the towers have a hard time keeping quality tenants because of how compactly they are designed. You can hear and see into your neighbors windows from every room, and the buildings on Hauser are especially gnarly and full of co-eds.
Where we are in the Garden Apartments security responds quickly when a burglar busts the neighbors window to get in. Just don't expect a lot of help on a Saturday night when someone is having a party, at least not until after Midnight.
Yes, parking is tight after 10, but you can still find a place inside the gate. Walking to The Grove or the LACMA is a great reason to stay here, so is the location to the rest of Hollywood and Beverly Hills.
