Recently they've begun to lower the rents on their 2-bedroom garden apartments. Rumor has it that there are 200 vacancies.

Also, they just layed off 14 maintennce staff (including the landscaping and repair people). Meanwhile all the $$'s pouring into their new pool project. Gross mis-management.

Their last priority is taking care of their current renters. It's all about pulling in new unsuspecting renters. Turnover is high.

I live there and see those kids. I do not know why they're a "nuisance". I have never seen them bother anyone, but I have seen security called on them a few times but I do not know why. I think some people just do not like skate boarders.

Skateboarding is not a crime. Skateboarders are not gangbangers. Lighten up!

skateboarding is a crime:) particularly when unattended children scream through your backyard, or come racing into traffic. plb is a kiddie park, and if you move in here you'll be paying for it.

I definitely agree with you. I hate being woken up by the sound of those skateboards scraping along the pavement. Don't those kids sleep?

Park La Brea is a dangerous place and it isn't just because of skateboarding. Gangs of teenagers are allowed to roam the complex unfettered. They harass and endanger young and old. They physically threaten other residents and administration does nothing about it. Security has its hands tied. The parents of these kids have been spoken to again and again with no relief for other tenants. Any tenant who has complained in the open to security about these gang members has their life turned into a hell here. These kids will harass them and damage their apartments and cars. One elderly resident was knocked to the ground by one of these kids and gravely injured. This resulted in a serious lawsuit against Park La Brea, which they settled for a lot of money. Nonresidents are allowed to come onto the property and throw parties at Park La Brea parks. They bring in alcohol and drugs. They leave behind a great deal of trash which has to be cleaned away by the workers paid for by resident rent. There is no public bathroom at the one park used for parties and adults are always scene urinating in public at this park. It is unsafe and dangerous. People with young daughters should never consider moving here because these gangs make it very, very dangerous for young girls to be walking around the property. Recently, these gang members went on a rampage at the garden apartments, damaging property in the front of people's apartments, on their patios and on their front porches. You cannot find an adult living around Alendele Circle who hasn't had their fill of living in this ghetto. These kids are allowed to bully everyone who lives here. If you value any sort of peace and quiet this isn't the place for you.

I posted "Skateboarding is not a crime" (see above). I am a current resident & have lived at Park La Brea in a tower for 5 years. I have never witnessed any "gangs" or gang-like behavior from ANY teenager. Yes- sometimes they congregate & are loud, but I am more often inconvenienced by the adults that live here- not the teens. Regarding the allegations of non-residents bringing in drugs & alcohol, and the gangs "going on a rampage at the garden apts"- I'd like to see a police report of these events. You did call the police, didn't you? Or are you repeating rumors & gossip? The facts are (1) Park La Brea is located in a big city called Los Angeles and yes, it's going to be loud (2) The main job of Patrol is to manage parking issues, not criminal behavior- call the police if/when you witness a crime (3) Check with the LAPD to determine the true crime level of Park La Brea- then compare it to other neighborhoods! (4) Being a teenager on a skateboard does not make you a gangbanger. Trust me on this. Gangs are real. These kids are not in gangs.

OMG, seriously? These are kids, not gang-bangers. I suppose you'd prefer they stay inside playing on the Xbox and doped-up on Ridalin - I'm sure there are plenty of those here in PLB as well. Fact is, these kids have it particularly tough since there is no suitable outdoor environment for them. While I'm not condoning the 1% of kids that are vandals , it's unfair to judge all of them so harshly. Try to put yourself in their shoes and imagine yourself as a child once more. Only this time, you're stuck in the middle of a major city. What are they to do? Two weeks ago police shot and killed armed robbers at Pico and Fairfax.

There are, in fact, punks hanging out with these PLB kids that are from outside PLB. Fortunately, the new security director is continuing to crack down on this nuisance. btw - PLB just evicted another tenant because of their child's vandalism.

Of course you folks that live in the towers don't see the skateboard gang problem. Does kicking in the security gate (as my local gang does on a daily basis) to gain entry to the so-called gated community where we park our cars count as a crime to you oblivious dopes? Park la brea sells itself as an oasis yet and the clueless poster at 5/20 tells us we should not trouble the patrol funded by our exhorbitant rents? This board is infested by PLB administrators posing as residents, but I think this batch are just a bunch of insensitive dopes, the kind of dopes you can look forward to living next to if you move here.

Office "assistance" at Park La Brea is an oxymoron. Why? Because it doesn't exist! The most incompetent people are hired to work in the PLB office to sadistically torment the tenants and deny any requests they may have involving parking, disturbances, etc. I'm moving out next week!!! Thanks ------------! You are worthless.

well, they are annoying, but for the most part... they're not trouble makers... unless it involves skating. With regards to that, it is not immoral to deface property and turn anything and everything into a playground. But from their perspective(and unfortunately, some frame this as a matter of perspective as if a definite Right and Wrong does not exist), they're geniuses using what they have to have a good time... thus, for whatever reason, making it moral. Is it right? No! Thanks for the tip (I live next door near beverly blvd.)

I haven't seen any of the vandalism; I live in a tower on the east side of hauser. The skateboarders irk me because of the early hours and because they like to skate next to cars and make faces at the drivers. I haven't seen the teenagers; they're mostly preteens in my area. There are easily sections of the complex that they could skate at without bothering other tenants, but they like to skate right in the midst of things. It's also annoying that they were planning on redoing the parking and adding a gym and pool to the east side (supposedly within 6 months when I moved in), but it looks like that has been scrapped, as it's been over a year. Also, to original poster, if you think they mismanage things so badly, why rate them so high?
