A MUST READ - Think twice before living here

I thought this place was nice when I first moved in. But boy was I wrong. First off, you have to pay for the gym and pool - my fault for not asking if that was included in rent. It's not. Secondly in the winter, yes, it is cold outside, but the tower apartments have centralized heating throughout the building so you cannot change the temperature so my room was boiling even though it was cold out.
But my biggest complaint and stress happened a month after I moved out.
This is what happened -
(ps - I moved 6 hours away before my lease was even up for personal reasons)
So I get to my apartment on moveout day and there is a note on my door saying I'm going to be evicted if I do not pay my rent. Apparently there was a problem with my check. Whatever though, is what I thought. They tacked on a late fee but I didn't mind paying it because I figured I wouldn't be dealing with them again.
By the end of my move I turn in 2 full sets of keys and garage pass (another thing they don't tell you is that you pay for your parking space) and I signed and dated a move out form and also gave the lady my new rent check which she kindly put in a envelope too. She told me my deposit would be mailed to my new address in 21 days.
I leave happily thinking nothing could go wrong but wow. This past week has been horrible! I get a summons in the mail that I am a deliquint tenant and need to go to LA superior court and I am being evicted. This is wrong as I am no longer living there!! So I call PLB to sort this out and they keep redirecting me to voicemail and I get no call backs nor do I get email responses (which the accounting lady is so quick at responding!) So here I am freaking out and I am at my witsend. So I pretty much yell at the Admin girl and she then tells me that PLB is no longer dealing with my case and I have to call some law office.
So I call the law office and I come to find out that my case has been dismissed! And still no one will talk to me at PLB.
Everything has been resolved as of yesterday. But the lady I gave the check to obviously didn't turn it in and they failed to recieve my moveout slip which was signed and date by her - but I faxed it to them and they were in disbelief!
So please save yourself the time and hastle. I'm not even getting my $500 deposit back but you know what, I don't care. I'm just happy this is over with. I am sure that is exactly what they wanted.

the same thing happened to me. Park La Brea is trash and needs to be bulldozed over. The management staff and leasing staff there are useless pieces of trash also.

Yes, I moved out of Park La Brea, fully paid up. Mysteriously, they claimed I did not pay, and even had some law ifrm threaten to sue me. I never got back my deposit. It seems to be the norm there. They are crooks

PLB NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN - ALL TENANTS AND PAST TENANTS SHOULD SUE, SHUT THEM DOWN, AND GET REVENUE :) ...WE WISH.
The least they could do is get some people skills.

They love sueing people for no good reason and causing trouble. Like life is not hard enough. You would think if you are paying an arm and a leg for a freaking apts , you don't have to deal with these things but nnnoooo, not here. This place is the 7th floor of hell!

I'm sure the PLB management makes mistakes, after all it is a huge place; around 4000 apartments to look after is not an easy task.
I live here since a few years and know many people who live here since many years, I changed units, got my deposits back immediately, I had some problems with the new unit (paint and finishes in the kitchen) which were resolved very quickly.
When I moved in I knew about the extra costs of the gym/pool, which btw is around $35 a month, not a lot. I was also informed about the extra costs of covered private parking spots, general parking is free for residents; one car for a one bedroom, 2 cars for a 2 bedroom. I actually had a 1 bedroom apartment first, but had 2 cars.. normally you would need to pay for a private space for that second car, but the management waived that. The same thing happened with most of my neighbours.
At one point we also had problems with some new neighbours who were loud and often drunk, made a mess out of the communal gardens; they were evicted during their first month, and rightly so.
Park la Brea is an extremely nice place, with a big gym, one (and soon 3) real swimmer pools, lots of lush green, 24/7 security and above all, in a very good location.

Hi, PLEASE, everyone who has any issues to file the complaint with better business bureau. I think it would be great to have them know too! all it takes is copy & paste. Right now they have a B which is very good rating, is that right, do they deserve a B, http://www.la.bbb.org/BusinessReport.aspx?CompanyID=1310333 thanks.
give Park La Brea, the well deserved karma smack!
