I lived right across from the north runways at LAX, and I had a front-row seat watching jumbo jets taking off for Hong Kong or Frankfurt or Kuala Lumpur. But you have to be an aviation buff to appreciate this aspect of life at Park West. Otherwise it's very loud and the aroma of jet fuel is ever-present. Thankfully the windows are sound-dampening, but you can't fully avoid hearing the jets if your apartment faces the airport.
The place is so huge it's hard not to get lost, especially in the first few weeks.
When I lived there, from 2000 to 2001, I repeatedly had newspapers stolen from the unsecured bin underneath the mailboxes. It got so bad I had to cancel my subscription.
One night a tenant was robbed at gunpoint in the elevator, according to a notice that went up the next day warning tenants to be careful. The complex is in a reasonably nice neighborhood, but not far from some very seedy areas of Los Angeles. That means you really have to be very cautious about safety. I hope the management has beefed up security since I lived there.
Overall I didn't get much in return for high rent. There's a gym and at least one pool, but I did not have time to use these amenities.
The neighbors below me tended to be noisy, and at least twice I had to call security to tell them to be quiet.
Not a great experience. But the airplanes are cool.
