Parkwest is crap

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2004
To simply put, this place is crap. I have lived here since June of 2004 (will have lived 9 months) and here is why:
1. Noise. Very loud noise. My unit faces Lincoln Blvd. and it is very noisy since it is one of the busier streets in Los Angeles. When it rains, the tires on the wet street only amplifies the noise. For those who live on the otherside, their unit faces the LAX runway, and airplane noise is a constant problem. My complaint is not the location, because I knowingly moved here, but the poor construction of the building. You would expect Equity (owner of Parkwest) would build it so cancel out the noise. Did they' NO! Not even a double pane window to reduce the noise. They charge an arm and a leg, yet they cannot install a double pane window. The noise from the unit upstairs is really annoying. I can hear ever drawer opening, squeaking from waking, and water being turned on and off.
2. Entrance and Exit: As other posts mentioned, you cannot enter or exit easily. The elevator is always broken. The stairs lead you outside, but not to the garage! Very inconvient.
3. Price: This place is a rip off. I'm living in a junior 1 bedroom, and paying $1,315. This doesn't include water, electricity, cable, garbage, phone, and not even a freakin refrigerator! Oh, you also have to get insurance! That's another $120/year. That leads to 4.
4. Safety: Not safe, and now you know why they want you to get insurance. Since I have lived there, I am constantly getting letters from the office about cars being broken into, vandalism in laundry room and other common areas, and I even heard gun shots, where police officers knocked on my door investigating the situation.
5. Office Staff: Poor, unfriendly, unprofessional, and greedy. I can't blame them completely since Equity need to carry most of the blame.
So, I bought a 3bed 2.5bath townhouse in Torrance (a bit south of LAX). My mortage will be roughly the same when I get a roommate. If you cannot buy, I recommend living in Redondo Beach, there are better, friendier, quiter, closer to the beach, and a lot cheaper than Parkwest. Thank god, I'm moving out of this ---- hole.
