This is like a grave yard for innocent young people. Normally, the manager will tell you all the important things such as what you need to do before the lease is up, what if you want to move out early. This manager says they go by the book only, which means you need to read all the fine lines in the contract or you will be charged heavily.

My daughter wanted to move out earlier (she already left the apartment and stayed with her friends in San Jose for the summer)and then they told her she needed to notify them 2 months before and there is a two-month fine. Since it is pretty close to the last two months of her lease, she just expected the lease will naturally expire and so she told them she would move out at the end of the lease.

Close to the end of the lease, the manger said that she did not sign a notice to leave so her contract was automatically renewed for another month, which they did not tell her when she told them she wanted to move out. Also, she could not remember receiving such an automatic renew letter (the manager said this is an option in the letter).

I don't know if this is a common practice. But the manager knew long time ago that she wanted to leave and still played this "option" trick!!
