It's all about attitude

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I've lived here for three years and would recommend it if you work in the downtown area. It's not perfect, but it's also still very new & they seem to make improvements consistently. The location is right in the heart of downtown & that means more convenience if you work in the area.
Yes there are homeless people - the purple patrol does what it can to keep the area safe, but if you think that the homeless existing in this area is a problem having to do with managment of the apartment, you are clearly stupid. The homeless have been downtown for my entire life, and they tend to congregate here because it's scary on skid row. I would prefer 24 hour security myself, but I'd also like it if people would stop holding the door open for strangers and letting randoms walk in (which thereby increases the need for security).
It seems that people who are rating the apartments poorly have an equally poor attitude. I personally have found that when you treat people with respect (yes, even people you pay rent to), they respond in kind. The staff is very kind, despite the rude, spoiled tenants whom I've had the misfortune to observe in the throws of some sort of "it's all about me" fit. Grow up and simply ask for what you need or state your complaint calmly, then you may find that people won't ignore you.
I park on site, and yes, it is expensive, but that's the way it goes downtown generally. Either suck it up and pay for parking or get out of the city and move to the suburbs. As for towing' Parking is assigned. If your car and permit match where you park, you won't get towed. Duh. Signs are posted everywhere, and I personally tend to blow a happy fuse when I see inconsiderate people who know they don't belong where they are parking end up getting towed. Maybe that will help them to realize that the rules actually do apply to them, too.
Yes, the washing machine is small, but you learn to do smaller loads and wash more often. Most apartments- downtown or otherwise -- don't even have washing machines. The machines are small because they are efficiency rated and also dry your clothes after they are done washing them. I love the option of washing my undies in my own home, rather than waiting for a dirty machine that people always manage to mess up or leave full of their crap for hours on end.
Yes there are too many college kids, but ask about where they are located before you rent. I said I wanted to be where there were the less rowdy grownups live, and that's what I got.
Basically, this and any living experience is as good as your attitude. Stop whining and acting like the world revolves around you.
